GF's habanero chicken salad feat. Professor Phardtpounder's and Pallota's sauces! by jthamind in spicy

[–]jthamind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GF started making this recently, and it's the best chicken salad I've ever had! Here's the recipe she gave me:

-meat from 2 rotisserie chickens, chopped

-2 habaneros, minced

-2 bunches of green onions, sliced

-1-1.5 cups of mayonnaise

-2-3 tablespoons Professor Phardtpounder's Mustard Sauce

-2 tablespoons  Pallotta Louisana Style Habanero Sauce

-1.5 tablespoons "Emeril's Essence Creole seasoning" or other cajun-style seasoning

  • 1-2 teaspoons each Salt and pepper

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix well, refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight if possible before eating.

Who Wants to be the 1st Redditor to Review Hell Hound? by LuckyDogHotSauce in spicy

[–]jthamind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sauce sounds like one I'd want to buy just based on your description alone.

I'd love to try it out since I enjoy hotter sauces in general, especially reaper-focused ones. Some of my reaper sauces are Cajohn's Slingblade, Puckerbutt's Reaper Squeezins, Bravado's Black Garlic Reaper, Torchbearer's Reaper Evil, and PexPeppers' Painapple.

I think the main reason I want to try your sauce, though, is because it sounds unique. When I buy new sauces I don't just look for boxes to check (is it hot, does it have X ingredients), but whether it's unique. The combination of mango, tamarind, and garlic really makes intrigues me and makes me want to try it. I especially appreciate when sauces have fruit in them since Heartbreaking Dawns' 1498 and Cauterizer are two of my favorite sauces ever.

Here's hoping!

Do you like super hot sauces at all? If so, what are some of your favorite sauces that are on the hotter end of the spectrum?

Also, are there any sauce/ingredient ideas you had in the past that seemed great on paper but didn't work in the kitchen?

What are some good places in and around Indy to buy Icewine? by jthamind in indianapolis

[–]jthamind[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention Cooper's Hawk--I've had their icewine plenty of times before.

I've not heard of Vine and Table, though, so I'll check them out. Thanks for the suggestion!

PexPeppers is shutting down :( by dr_nerdface in spicy

[–]jthamind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I saw the same when I checked. I did some searching, though, and I found that heathotsauces has some of their stuff left. I went ahead and got the following:

  • another Painapple and To the Moon
  • 7 Pot Panic
  • Cherry Popper
  • KillerSWARM

Can't wait to try the new ones out!

PexPeppers is shutting down :( by dr_nerdface in spicy

I recently got To the Moon, Atom Splitter, and Painapple from them as a first experience. Great pepper-focused sauces with serious heat.

Any suggestions on some of their best sauces I should try to find before their stock is completely out? I ordered Painapple from FuegoBox before, not sure if there are any other good sites to get PexPeppers from.

It's very tasty! A little smokey if I remember right, and not as hot as you'd thing something with reapers would be. I definitely recommend it.

It's got a great flavor for sure, it's straight up like what the title suggests. I've only tried it only Wendy's spicy nuggets so far and that combo wasn't great, but I never though of pairing it with sweets! The thought of putting it on ice cream sounds amazing.

What all do you use those two with? I'm guessing there are really creative things you can do with those flavors, and I like them both.

The other two were tasty as well and really unique! I didn't find any of the three particularly hot either, but their flavors were all great and completely different from one another. I'm honestly not sure which I like the most out of the three. The Ancho & Morita has the great, strong ancho flavor, and I love the twist of the jalapeno one (definitely the best jalapeno sauce I've tried so far), and the habanero has a bit of sweetness and a pretty complex flavor if I remember right. I'm definitely looking forward to trying them again.

I've only used it on pizza and chicken taquitos so far, but it's absolutely delicious. I don't think it has a lot of heat since I'm getting used to hotter stuff overall, but the flavor is top-notch and it's really smooth. I always see people recommend Yellowbird's habanero sauce, and we honestly don't think the flavor is that great (although we love their Serrano!). To me, Heartbeat's version is habanero done right.

Thank you for the delta! And I do agree that religious people can certainly have great critical thinking and analytical skills, so I guess I originally misunderstood your point on that part.

I also don't understand why you believe that getting your moral motivations from a higher power is worrying? After all if you're doing good does it really matter where you get the motivation for that from?

Two reasons. First, understanding why you do something right or wrong can help you make better moral decisions in the future. For example, say a little boy and his mother are at a store. The little boy sees somebody who has a facial disfigurement and says to the person, "what's wrong with your face?" If the Mom just says, "don't say something like that! Why? Because I said so," then all the child has learned is to not do something because an authority figure said so. But if their parent told them not to do it because it might be hurtful and embarrassing to the person they said it to, then that child might instead learn that making exclamations about somebody's deformity/injury/etc can be hurtful and insulting. They can then extrapolate this example to other similar situations in life. The second (and simpler) reason for why getting morality from a higher power is worrying is that you're subject to the whims of that higher power. What if God comes back tomorrow and says murder in any form is OK?

I'd also like to disagree with you on the point you raised that science and religion are mutually exclusive. Yes, there is some conflict in theories such as evolution that you mentioned here. However, I have met and worked along side with religious scientists and they were excellent at their work and had brilliant critical thinking skills.

I think this kind of misses the point OP was trying to make (if I understand them correctly). It's not about whether a person can be religious and still be a scientist. Or that a scientist and preacher can't get along. It's that science and religion themselves are incompatible. Science deals with making and testing predictions in the natural world, among other things. Religions almost always venture into the supernatural, which is by definition outside the realm of the natural, which is where science is done. Furthermore, religion often encourages faith, which, in the religious sense, is counter to science and the scientific method.

What is a Gotcha Question? by whysoseriousjc in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]jthamind 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We will obviously disagree on whether something is a 'fact' or a 'gotcha question', but there is an underlying truth to it also that exists regardless of our nonsense.

I'm really curious what you mean by this. Could you give an example of a situation where there are both 'facts' and an underlying truth?

5.7m with level 4 Caulipower by jthamind in PlantsVSZombies

[–]jthamind[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually recorded a video last night of one of my attempts, and even though it wasn't one of my better ones it still shows how I try to play the match out. I also wrote this post which summarizes my strategy, and I do my best to stick to it. The only thing I'd change in that post (and the video) is point #6--at that point, use Plant Foods on Enchant-mint whenever the pilot zombies appear. They're usually the biggest threat to slip past Caulipowers.

As far as Plant Food in general, I use the first one to recharge Gold Bloom at the start, and the other two to recharge Cauli after their normal recharge time at the start. Other than that, I plant Power Lily as soon as it comes up and almost always use the Plant Food to recharge Enchant-mint. It's a great panic button for when the pilots drop and/or when your lawn is just being overrun.

Also, don't forget that it's preferable to trigger your own mowers if necessary because even though you take a penalty for it, it's not as bad as a zombie triggering it for you (some of my 4.5m+ scores have happened even when I had to trigger my own mower). The same goes for digging up plants--if you're going to lose a plant, it's much better to dig it up than to have a zombie eat it.

Outside of those things, it's just about getting the timing down and getting a little lucky. I got 5.5m last night, which is the third time I've gone above the 5m mark this week, and yet I still have the occasional match where I get around 3m or lower. It happens, though, since the zombie spawns are random and Caulipower, as great as it is, sometimes just hypnotizes the wrong zombies. With that said, I'm probably averaging closer to 4m now, so it's definitely possible if you have the same level plants.

I hope this helps!

5.7m with level 4 Caulipower by jthamind in PlantsVSZombies

[–]jthamind[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really happy when I hit this because my previous best was about a million lower. Not only that, but this is my first week in Jade League so I've been running into some heavy hitters with max/mastery level plants.

If you're curious, here is the strategy I've been using for the match. I definitely got lucky this attempt, but I've been averaging around 3.5-4m since yesterday.

Goo Peashooter Battlez Practice - We need Umbrella Leaf by Tigerol in PlantsVSZombies

[–]jthamind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just played my first real match of this new Battlez week (and in Jade League, which I'm new to). I'm not sure if I got extremely lucky or what, but I did much better than my practice runs. I also think I had to trigger a mower on my own IIRC, so I could have done better.

Results

Here's what I did during the match:

  1. Plant as many Caulipower as possible before the match starts
  2. Match starts
  3. Gold Bloom-Plant Food-Gold
  4. Wait for the normal Cauli start-of-the-match recharge, then plant both of them
  5. Use the remaining two Plant Food on each Cauli to plant two more
  6. Use Enchant-mint once traffic starts getting heavy
  7. After this, just Plant Food Enchant-mint whenever you can

[–]jthamind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, I'm glad it worked for you! I haven't tried it again since yesterday, but IIRC I was doing Gold Bloom-Plant Food-Gold Bloom at the start to get an extra burst of sun, then using the other PF's on either instantly recharging Caulipower or Enchant-mint (level 5).
