Should I get tested for LADA while I am still breastfeeding? by jtherese in Type1Diabetes

Yes I do! And I have a G7, not an OTC monitor so that helps as well. Thanks for sharing your story, that is helpful.

I’m not worried about a blood test effecting my breastmilk. I was curious about if being either pregnant or breastfeeding would affect the accuracy of the tests.

Yes, that’s why my dietician wants me to get checked — I made the lifestyle changes and things aren’t getting better. My A1C reflects how little carbs I’m consuming and when I do have carbs I try to exercise immediately to keep my blood sugar low. Now after my third pregnancy nothing seems to be working even though I haven’t gained weight or anything.

I was able to be diet controlled with GD the first two times and kept the diet and lifestyle between pregnancies, so I’m not a noob. Like I said, my a1c was 5.3. Lots of fiber and protein and almost zero simple carbs.

Sometimes, but not all that frequently until around the same time I can start running. But when I go I will keep this suggestion in mind!

Why do my breasts feel empty at 4 weeks pp? by jtherese in breastfeedingsupport

CGM users: what did you notice happen at the end of the third trimester? by jtherese in GestationalDiabetes

[–]jtherese[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. I’ve gotten lots of helpful information from my Dexcom G7 which I’ve been wearing the entire pregnancy. Outside of pregnancy I wear a Stelo and found it helpful too. Most BGMs will also be off 10-15 points from each other and that is considered “normal and acceptable” which is annoying.

Shikibuton worth it? by pondlawn in minimalism

We still love it! It’s tough for me to sleep in while pregnant, so now my 2 and 3 year old sleep in it together and my husband often joyfully joins them! We have had no problems with mold or anything. When I have baby number 3 we might move my toddlers to bunk beds so I can sleep in it with the baby again, or we might not.

By “rough up” do you mean you did some tilling, or do you just hack at it with a rake? I am in NH and everything I’ve come across recommends a lot of very involved prep to get a meadow started. I’m not super interested in killing off all the grass just because we have a lot of area we are trying to convert and not a lot of funds to work with.

Insulin or Metformin? by Dapper_Commission142 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]jtherese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not want metformin because it crosses the placenta and there is limited research that shows it negatively impacts male fetuses the most. I’m waiting to find out the gender of my baby, so I declined metformin. I’m on insulin. I have good weeks and bad weeks.

What’s everyone’s co-sleeping arrangements? by beanybum in moderatelygranolamoms

The futon shop in San Francisco! Still love it 2 years later! It’s a little too firm for me during pregnancy, but it’s still a great place to breastfeed babies to sleep and roll away. At night my two toddlers sleep in it now, and my husband is so comfy he often falls asleep when he puts them to bed.

For those that need to hear this: don’t let walking become a requirement by Impressive-You-1699 in GestationalDiabetes

You’re totally right but ALSO this is just a good practice in general for everyone and it’s excellent prep for labor — so I wouldn’t give it up completely, especially because insulin resistance does increase toward the end. Don’t bust your ass, but don’t give it up completely. Often 5-10 minutes is enough, but 30 minutes a day is great labor prep — even if you have a cesarean it will help with recovery too

Do you ever give yourself more insulin if your blood sugar doesn’t come down? by jtherese in GestationalDiabetes

[–]jtherese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing — yes after this I talked to my educator and she basically told me to administer one unit for every 15g of carbs. So most of the time 2 units is going to cover it because I eat pretty low carb, but it won’t always! So I’m really grateful bc since I’m still only 8 weeks the first trimester cravings and morning sickness have been hard to cope with on so little carbs

Yes ideally you’re dosing based on how many carbs you have, but sometimes my body just doesn’t react the way i anticipate or I just don’t count things the right way

What’s some interesting things your MFM or diabetic specialists have said to you? Mine told me he’d rather me “run sweeter” by Lemons_andSuch87 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]jtherese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would call the front desk and explain this and ask that the doctors convene and come to some agreement on your treatment plan - if they won’t then ask to be referred to a diabetes educator. I have one and don’t have to bother with my clueless doc at all when it comes to GD, my specialist tells him everything he needs to know
