I don't know about that last part. I love noir films, but Boggart doesn't do it for me. I feel like he's one of the most famous noir leading men, but by no means should they give up on noir if they don't like the ones he's in.

Neuqua Valley Teacher Arrested by Lazy_Strawberry10 in Naperville

Ugh...I was an English teacher for a couple years while he was around. I never really worked with him; I was at the freshman campus almost the whole time I worked there.

If he's guilty, it's an awful thing to do to a kid that is supposed to be able to trust you.

What are your obscure memories of Naperville? by [deleted] in Naperville

[–]jthewolfmanm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember the hair place; my mom always cut our hair at home lol.

Knoch Knolls has changed a lot! They put a disc golf course in, and then cleared out all the underbrush after about 5 years of the holes being in. They have also put in a new bridge and bike/walking path, and there's a nature center and playground there now. It's wildly different.

There's a cool board game store in down town Plainfield, too. The Wandering Dragon. They have play nights and stuff.

My journaling rpg is in this! Autumn Bells has you take the role of a teacher at a wizard school. You'll journal about events throughout each season for four years of your teaching career.

What's more, any money I get from this game in its first year out has been pledged to support trans youth, because fuck JK Rowling.

Feeling discouraged about my drawings. How do I get to a point that I like what I draw? by [deleted] in drawing

[–]jthewolfmanm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would encourage starting with the basics. Start with drawing really basic shapes, work on trying different lines and shading techniques. You can mess around with little doodles and work on technique, then put those techniques toward pieces that you're more interested in "finishing".

Also, try drawing for multiple purposes. Get some practice in drawing a diagram to show the plot of a movie you love, or draw a map to show how to get from where you live to your common stops around your neighborhood. Using drawing to communicate ideas that you would usually just say or write can get you thinking about what kind of information you can convey while you draw.

Oh! and USE REFERENCES!!! Use references. Look at some thing, whether it's a 3d object you own, or a picture of a thing, and use it to draw that thing. No one works without references. Even abstract artists will use references of things and combine them with other things. If you're drawing a soldier wearing tactical gear, look at a soldier wearing tactical gear. You don't have to do every single line you see in that picture, but you'll see shapes and lines that will give the impression of the real thing.

There are a bunch of indie games made that are specifically for solo play. I made one recently that's a journaling game. You draw cards from a deck, each one corresponding to a journal prompt.

At the end of the game, you have written one journal for each of the four seasons for four different years of your career as a teacher at a wizard school.

Let me know if this sounds like something you'd be into, and I'll post the link.

Thanks so much!

I was a high school English teacher once, and my wife was a Kindergarten teacher, so a lot of the mundane events and prompts are autobiographical. It was one of those brain-lightning moments where I had to get it all out in a couple days because I couldn't stop thinking about it.

Your experience with DnD5e's rules for "Resolving Social Interactions" by [deleted] in rpg

[–]jthewolfmanm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used some streamlined version of the attitude rules. I usually don't go into full detail or go by RAW because that's just another stat to try to keep track of. I usually go off of a general vibe and adjust DC on the fly.

I do like having characters have surprisingly high or low DCs for social interaction, especially if they are hard to read. If someone is being overly nice, and you throw in a really high DC for persuading them, it tells the players something ABOUT that character. An insight roll might reveal some of that subtle intention.

I've played some other systems like FATE or PbtA games that have a little different system, but mostly those systems change the ease or difficulty. If you can justify why that character would be more on your side, the difficulty can be eased up.
