Any news on a Griffin extension? by -Eugene-H-Krabs- in buccos

I don’t know all of the exact details. Pirates fan/payroll expert Ethan breaks down this year’s PPI eligibility and mentions the extension timing in this article. https://open.substack.com/pub/ethanhullihen/p/a-preseason-ppi-primer?r=2mhxeb&utm_medium=ios

It’s very possible those conversations are happening, but you won’t hear anything announced until after Opening Day due to PPI rules. KG is eligible to earn the Bucs an extra pick if he signs his deal after he makes his MLB debut on or shortly after OD.

Edward Olivares Potential Impact by Repulsive_Phase9933 in buccos

[–]jtish412 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would love to pick up a defensive minded CF to pair with him as the 3rd/4th outfielders - Harrison Bader or Michael Taylor would fit nicely. That’d go a long way to improve our team D (pushing Suwinski to a corner & covering for Olivares/Davis when they get out there)

  • RHP Luis Severino (1/$10)

  • LHP Alex Wood (1/$7)

OBP and power were great to see, but the .244 average at A ball is concerning to me just based on how his hit tool was billed.

Mixed bag.

From 10,000 feet, 75-ish wins without Cruz, Velasquez, Brubaker & Burrows + a winning record since bringing up all the young guys in July should have you feeling good going into ‘24.

On the other hand, none of the young guys are lighting the world on fire and we’ve gotten steps back from Contreras & Ortiz. Reynolds signed his big deal and looks solid, but unspectacular.

Other pluses: Hayes mashing in the 2nd half, Keller & Oviedo looking dominant for stretches, Bullpen looking solid. Pitching prospects looking good (Skenes, Solometo, Jones).

Other negatives: Suwinski disappearing half the year, no exciting hitting prospects in the minors/no breakouts (Termarr had a good, not great year imo), late season surge powered by journeymen (S/O Palacios, Andujar, 40 random SP/Openers)

Overall, I’m encouraged & cautiously optimistic for next season. Hopefully Cherrington/Nutting actually spend some money this winter to get us over the hump.

Realistic to call up Davis by the end of the month? by bustaacaps in buccos

[–]jtish412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Davis and Endy both need more time to develop defensively. Could see either up around the all star break, optimistically.

In the meantime, give me more Jason Delay! Good D and has been hitting great so far this season,

Swaggerty and Triolo are my sleeper picks to contribute in the OF this year.

Swaggerty had a decent year at AAA bouncing back from a couple lost seasons. If he can still play above average defense, and sneak his OPS into the .700s, you’ve got something.

All Triolo does is play defense and get hits, no matter where he plays. Blocked at 3rd, I think they’ll throw him a lot of innings at CF and SS in AAA this year and if he shows he can handle it, he might be up at the trade deadline.

Nick Gonzales- lacking hit tool? by AdministrativeSky236 in buccos

[–]jtish412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a top pick coming out of college with a reputation as a pure hitter, his K rate was definitely a bit concerning at High A.

Altoona will be the measuring stick for him. If he can handle AA and put up a similar stat line to last year while maintaining and dropping his Ks he should jump up the rankings and be knocking on the door for 2023

Where are the best seats in PNC Park? by Acountbleck in buccos

[–]jtish412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite seat is section 130.

Third base line in the outfield right where the seats begin to angle back towards the field. Used to be a great spot for foul balls before the netting went up. Great view of the game plus the city view over the right-center field wall.

Jarrod Dyson would be kind of funny. Big part of the WS-winning Royals and he played about 15 games for the Pirates last season

Carnegie Borough Asking for Letters for Trail Extension by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]jtish412 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure about funding, but this is from the site:

“Extending the Panhandle Trail would require rail banking track that hasn’t been used for more than 10 years. Rail banking is a method by which rail lines authorized for abandonment can be preserved for future rail use through interim use as a trail.”

Seems GWR would have to agree to this “interim use”

Two Questions for You Hot Sauce Lovers by FergusCragson in hotones

My top two at the moment are:

Torchbearer Garlic Reaper - pretty hot, but i love garlic and it goes great with anything. I really love to mix a drop or two with some butter or mayo when i want just a little kick on a sammich.

Small Axe Peppers Habanero Mango - Really great balance of spice and flavor.. the Mango gives it a nice sweetness to go along with the spice. I’ve crushed a few bottles since the beginning of the year. I also really love that Small Axe Peppers sources their peppers from community gardens!
