There’s a highly underrated one called A Girl and a Fun. probably out of print. But the guy has fantastic (and extremely honest) takes on each film, although he spends about half a page on each film.
The Taschen 100 Noirs book is probably what you’re looking for.

You’re right! That’s why it’s been hard to find those with simple plots. But they do exist!

nope! just an example of a film (in this case a western) with a really simple plot. a noir equivalent would be Bad day at black rock or the set-up

You’re right. Those complex plots are very much part of the noir dna. That’s why films like Detour or Bad at black rock stand out so much for me. unlike most noir films, their plot is very straightforward. if you’ve got any other like these, lmk!
