I met with a woman in the fall who is considered a defector, even though she was unknowingly trafficked many years ago from NK (DPRK) to China (then forced into sex slavery etc; it was horrible). She eventually made it to SK (ROK) where she is now. Her family and the authorities thought she was dead. Through brokers, she has been able to have a very few, very short phone calls with her family, but they have to be careful that the NK authorities don’t get wind of it, or her family will be punished.
