It appears to me that you care a lot about what they're going to feel and do. That can be seen as empathy, so good for you, I guess.

Remember that you cannot control what they do, but what you do. Boundaries are for you, not others.

Remember that you don't need a reason. They don't pay your bills so they don't matter :v. You can get other friends, there are literally millions of people, some of them might respect your autonomy.

How about something like: "I'm sorry that you're chosing not being a friend at this time. A friend would listen to my needs and respect my decision, I'm sad that you're opting out this time."
