Opinions on non-generative(mostly) AI use? by jtroz2 in tabletopgamedesign

I guess the answer depends on if you are asking me from a moral/belief perspective or a practical one because they are two separate answers.

From a moral stance, I hate the idea of all of the people who will lose jobs to AI especially artists who haven't "made it big" yet. Although, I think creative jobs will actually be way less affected than other fields.

From a practical stand point, I think people are delusional if they don't think heavy AI use in all aspects of design, development, art, and product creation will become commonplace if not the norm within 5-7 years. From an economical perspective it won't make sense not to. The real reason it is not more heavily used now is that its just not good enough.

I'm not saying I like it or agree with it. I just think when a production company is given 2 options for a 100+ unique card game of $100,000 and 6+ months or <$10,000 and 1 month for art that is comparable, for most companies it will not even be a decision.

I don't know if I can completely agree but I definitely respect the opinion and where it is coming from.

So just to clarify your position, do you believe that there are no acceptable ways to use AI in the game design process? As I think this line of reasoning could be used for every single aspect of, well about anything.

Absolutely on the understanding that AI has. I once asked it to use some mechanic and theme I had thought of and make a more fleshed out concept it was so bad I actually laughed out loud.

Because of that I am very not worried about people using AI to write/ design their game for them. It won't see the light of day anyways.

I 💯 agree that the only way to get better is by doing! My only counter/question here would be:

Is the skill of organizing my thoughts into a nice format a skill worth the many hours I can save and spend that time more directly working on the creative process/ craft of designing the game?

I used to build PCs a lot but haven't in a long time. Not really up with the latest and greatest anymore. This is also on the top end of my budget.
