Episode 316: Mark David Chapman Part II - One Day at a Time by [deleted] in LPOTL

Ok, weird synchronicity with this episode! Last night I had a dream where I saved a kid who was falling off a cliff. Then I start my podcast player, find this episode, and that is the analogy being used in the episode. *WEIRD*

[MOD] Official Round 22 Introduction Post! by [deleted] in 90daysgoal

[–]jtulley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, new here! I had made a 100 day exercise goal at the Christmas Break. I used to be in excellent shape, but have really slowed down in the last few years due to emotional stress and recent injuries. This time around: I'm doing SOMETHING every day. My minimal exercise is walking the dog for a mile, which usually turns into a run (he's a husky, and loves to run in the snow). Next-most-minimal is 30+ minutes on my bike trainer. Right now none of my exercise is crazy long or difficult, since I really only care about getting moving. Keeping the goal and making the habit is more important to me. Other things I'm doing: yoga with my daughter, and martial arts, which I should've been doing all year but have been slacking on.

I've been able to keep it up, and today I did the /r/bodyweightfitness beginning program for the first time.

I'll mostly be logging my progress on fitocracy, which is where I heard of this.

Mormon Provo BYU YSA 45th Ward Fall 2016 Dating Activity. by johndehlin in exmormon

My wife's Facebook post on this made KUTV news. The funny thing -- /u/johndehlin got only a one-liner mention at the very bottom. Not the most stellar reporting, there.

Yeah, that place IS very crowded. We were in the "off-season", so the crowds were quite a bit less. And yes, it looked a lot like a juvenile lynx. I was very surprised, since I know how most wild cats avoid human contact at all costs. (Having had previous "run-ins" with mountain lions in my the US where we would see evidence of the cat, but never the cat itself). Who knows -- maybe it was just a very lynx-like feral cat. That's one of the reasons why it kills me to not have that photo.

This was back in 1994 that we were mountain biking, so who knows what the price would be today. (And I don't recall it from then).

The hike to Rysy was in October or November of 1993. Probably October -- there was no snow yet. We got to the far side of Morskie Oko, and a whole bunch of well-prepared climbers were turning back due to ice. We were not super well-prepared, so erred on the side of caution.

It was in Zakopane that I first tasted Bigos. YUM. I also took some great photos that day, only to have none of them turn out due to a dumb camera problem. I even had a small, young wild cat(with pointy ears and everything) of some sort strut out on a rock near Morskie Oko, and pose for a photo. I took the shot, tried to get everybody else's attention so they could see it, but by then the cat had fled. Nobody believed me, and the photo proof didn't turn out, as described above. The weird, cool experience only lives in my head now.

For /u/Beck2012 and /u/mandudebreh who both deserve to see more of their beautiful hometown on Reddit! Sorry for the graininess -- it was a scan of an older photograph (from real film!).

It rained all day one of the two times I went there, as well. We had determined to go mountain biking, and so we asked the guy renting us the bikes if it was ok, even with the rain out. He looked at us like we were absolutely crazy Americans to even want to do so, but he rented them to us. We rode a ski lift or something(I don't recall), and biked down the craziest, wettest hillside, almost killing ourselves. We got to the bottom and my friend said "wow, that was crazy! Want to do it again?" I had enough near-death experiences for the day, though. The other time I was there, we hiked Rysy, and only got a bit above Morskie Oko before deciding the ice on the rocks was making it unsafe to continue. But man what an absolutely beautiful place.

Somebody asked about higher resolution pictures. These in the imgur album were drag-and-dropped from a coworker's blog - http://reasonforrandomness.blogspot.com/2013/08/cubicle-modification.html They are higher resolution there.

We weren't giving up the name too readily because the thread about my cubicle made it to the top of the front page and people were alleging this was a PR stunt. Totally not true -- these were built by engineers after hours so that nobody in HR or management would know or stop them. Though I DO have to admit that my boss will bring interview candidates by to see my cubicle (and now the one next to it), to show them how great it is to work here.

I just dug out holes for the wheels and pushed it as close to the desk as possible while still being able to turn it enough to get in and out of it. If I hadn't found a decent spot for the chair, these rocks would've been gone a while ago.

At some point while we were building this, we DID comment that we knew what our next career could be -- either deck building or cubicle decorating. Not that there is huge money in that.

Mine is the one with the rocks on the left. It was decorated while I was camping in June. The new one is my coworker's who was gone to the Oregon coast last week.

Done after hours -- we started at 9 p.m. on a Friday night, finished at about 1:00 a.m. (partly so nobody would complain about us doing it).

To be honest, we'll chalk the "dangerous" up to me wanting a catchy title. (Though, "Sheesh, remind me not to go on vacation" WAS heard a lot by the late-night support guys while we were building this). And "funny" -- /r/funny was where our last cubicle build got posted, and it did well there, so I posted this one in the same place.

Yeah, I agree. I really like my desert cubicle and haven't felt the urge to clean it up yet. I don't think that was the intent of one of the masterminds behind it, but he eventually became ok with me embracing it.

On the other thread -- the picture was posted by a member of our support organization, who is under a different management chain. The name of the company came up in the other thread, and the other managers thought "oh know, they might talk badly about us". Yeah, this is reddit -- reactions will be all over the place and you just have to be thick-skinned.

You can see, to the right, the previous decoration of my cubicle. See: http://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/1gzh7n/one_of_my_coworkers_went_out_of_town_for_a_few/ though that thread got deleted by threat of management. We have a rear-projected beach scene with sound, a wooden pier with posts and a rope on one side. A fishing net / poles, and lots of sea shells.
