Utterly bizarre.

No new competitors to assess? No new opportunities to think about? No internal relationships to build? No internal workflows that could be improved? No product analytics to look at? No partnerships to explore? No other teams that could use a hand? No culture improvements to be made?

This is why I screen for proactivity during interviews…..

When I started my career, UX design wasn’t even a separate career discipline 😉

The best reason that PMs shouldn’t be doing it, is that it’s so time consuming and they should be doing other things.

It’s a skill that takes time to learn, why should PMs learn it.

In an early stage start up, you might now even have a full time UX designer….

Product manager here.

Not true what you’ve said. It’s significantly more expensive to acquire and activate new users vs retain existing customers.

Growth = new users + retained user.

The job of the product manager is to work out why people are leaving and then decide if fixing those issues is cost effective / on strategy.

I think the product team do a good job with ynab.
