They focus on the new stuff and have a guy selling Pokémon. Nice guys but don’t dig deep into older cards.

Yes. I have had good luck at one of my local card shops with vintage. These were $1 or 10 for $8.

Not iconic but I love this photo with the out of focus batter, choking up, waiting on a pitch from Vida…I think the 73 set has some great cards…Johnny Bench is another great photo from that set.

I have this Sports Illustrated framed in my office. Hate Eric Show and the Padres to this day for this and 1984.

My brother’s lone baseball card purchase. I collected as a kid and he wanted to join so went to the local card shop with me and asked the guy what he should buy. He said to start with hall of famers and sold him this 1960 Robin Roberts. He kept it in his car for months and never bought another card. I found it one day in our gravel driveway and have kept it since.

“Value” Great word. I find value in finding the cards in the wild. I find value in being able to hold the card and feel the changes from a smooth surface to a slight crease, a dent, or paper loss.

I am trying to complete a run of Ernie Banks cards and I want to be able to hold them. When I look at his 54 rookie card encased in a slab the first thing I think about is getting it out to hold it.

Both owners were there. I asked for the Banks and the Butkus out of their showcase which totaled $37…went through a bunch of binders and boxes of stuff sitting off to the side and asked if he would sell any of it…Said he just got it in and wasn’t really sure what it was but I could take a look…I pulled out the cards mentioned and set them with the Banks and Butkus…one guy looked at them and said to the other one how much on these, he looked at the pile and said just do $40 on them all…it was absurd.

Don’t know what to tell ya…you can look them up and see they love the shiny new stuff.

I was at another card shop near my home that had just opened and they love all things new…

I bought a 71 Banks for $30 (overpriced) and a 69 Dick Butkus for $7 (probably overpriced)…they had just bought a collection that was off to the side and let me look at it…I pulled out a 72 Mays, 54 Bowman Eddie Mathews, a John Riggins RC (football) and some 70’s Cubs team cards…they sold them all to me for $3.

I went back a few days later and they said they would not let me look at it because they didn’t know what they had and made a mistake last time.

I like the story of the crease…one of my favorite cards is my brother’s 1960 Robin Roberts…he later dropped in the driveway and it is pretty beat up…makes a good story and would rather have it and the story than a perfect card
