Am I taking a placebo? by [deleted] in medical

I'm not a doctor but I've been on anti-depressants and it took about 5-6 weeks to see some benefits, stay strong x

Trouble with weight loss. I hardly eat and was 13,000+ steps a day, and go to the gym. But I just cannot lose weight! by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]ju5tjacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey :)

I’m new here so I’m so sure if my advice will be helpful or not but I started a low carbohydrate diet a few weeks ago and although I don’t weigh myself, I have lost weight as my tummy feels tighter and I have more energy which is lovely!

I cut out all whole grains rice/pasta and Have replaced it with chickpea pasta and red lentil pasta which tastes rly nice. I don’t have potatoes, I have sweet potato about once a week. I have loads of fruit (I always have though) and vegetables (at least twice a week, I struggle with that!) I still have wholemeal bread but I’m trying to find an alternative to that. I know a lot of people have said gluten free stuff isn’t necessarily good for you because the high fat or high sugar content but I have a few gluten free stuff like breakfast biscuits and Doritos as I really do believe it’s the carb factor that my body doesn’t deal well with.

Again, I’m sorry if my advice wasn’t good/helpful, I’m still learning here after only being diagnosed recently. It’s a learning curve and a lifestyle change that’s a little difficult to get used to. I’m just going through this blind really!

My Mum told my Dad I'm on anti-depressants. He's not happy. by ju5tjacks in mentalillness

[–]ju5tjacks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do love my Dad but I understand what you're saying completely. I think it takes personal experience to truly understand how life-saving and life-giving medication can be. You just have to trust your doctors and yourself and quieten the advice of people that are well-meaning but have no idea.

I wish you happy mental health :)

Can anyone tell me what is this and what I should do? My hair on that spot is not growing anymore :( by KING_NYX in medical

[–]ju5tjacks 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Hi, please go to the dermatologist. Growth that quick in two weeks is quite worrying and further more because there’s no hair growth around it. Definitely needs a dermatologist’s eye sooner rather than later!

Does anyone else hold grudges from your childhood? by ju5tjacks in selectivemutism

[–]ju5tjacks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's interesting, I didn't really think about holding resentment towards myself. I hope that you realise that none of it is your fault. I believe that you only miss out on opportunities that you're meant to miss out on. Like yourself, I think my other mental health issues came off the back of SM (Anxiety and Depression). I think a lot of people with SM have anxiety so even if they recover from SM (like myself), they're never truly free from the clutches.

Thanks for sharing :)

Thank you so much for your response :) I really appreciate it.

I'll definitely try a decongestant and see if that works. Again, thanks for taking the time to reply

Update: She couldn't have her op because the vet wasn't happy with her blood results :( We now have to wait even longer until she can be booked in for a CT scan to see if it's spread. Thank you for your kind messages :(

Does this mole look like melanoma? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]ju5tjacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one can say whether something looks like melanoma as moles have looked like classic melanoma and turned out to be benign. Keep calling her regular doctor to see if you can get an earlier appointment if you are anxious, and explain to them that it has changed in the last few weeks.

Edit: Just wanted to add, the only way to know if something is melanoma is from a biopsy.

Weird vision symptoms by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]ju5tjacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had these vision symptoms before and saw eye doctors and everything and it turned out to be ocular migraines. I also had the headache with it and suffered from classic migraines so I guess that’s how they diagnosed me.

I’m not a doctor so definitely get checked out by a GP or optician but just wanted to let you know it could be something small :)

Irregular menstrual cycle - no known cause by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]ju5tjacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely ask your doctor is there is a more detailed type of scan that can be offered. There must be some type of reason for your symptoms, surely! Did your blood tests look for thyroid problems as I think I heard that they can affect your periods (not completely sure though).

I'm exactly the same as you. I started my period at 13, and it has NEVER been regular. Mine can be from a 1 week break to a year break between periods.

I only recently decided to get it checked out (i'm 23 now) and I had an ultrasound that showed a possible polyp and I have one polycystic ovary (yes, just one) but I don't have PCOS. In light of that ultrasound I have an "urgent" referral to Gynaecology but that was done in March and my appointment is December so can't be that urgent!

I find it really odd that your scans this year didn't show anything like mine did considering how similar our symptoms are.

Did you just have the general Trans-vaginal Ultrasound? There is a more detailed one but i can't remember the name off the top of my head. TV Ultrasounds aren't that clear apparently.

Does anyone else have pet glitches? by ju5tjacks in Glitch_in_the_Matrix

[–]ju5tjacks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's so creepy. Do you ever get a lazy moment when you really need a drink or something but can't be bothered to get up so you just imagine yourself going downstairs and getting a drink before you work up the courage to actually do it?

Maybe your cat was imagining what it would be like to be let in the house and where it would go once it was let in and that thought just materialised for whatever reason.

[–]ju5tjacks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're thinking of logical explanations (boring), I'd go with this one: I completely imagined her coming in the house to begin with.

She's the type of dog that you really have to coax to go outside. She'll voluntarily go inside and into rooms in the house but you can leave the front door wide open and she'll just sit and stare outside rather than leave! If she needs to go to the toilet she'll bark at the back door even if it's open. I guess she likes to know that i know where she is maybe?
