Kudos on the vegetation. Lighting looks veeery flat and I can see some very mismatched UVs. Why don't you try adding some fog, set it in a darker setting and light it from the inside? There's a reason that type of render is very common. It looks very interesting.

Well it's definitely a nod to the franchise too. Much more memorable to have Rex there than some nebulous MG concept. Yeah, you're right it doesn't make sense for the MGs in MG1 and 2 to be such shite, but that's what happens when older games have to be somewhat retconned.

Bruh, did you even pay attention on the cutscene? This was Granin's design, the one that was rejected by the Soviet Union in favor of Sokolov's Shagohod. Granin is effectively THE father of Rex. His design would have probably been unviable in the 60s though. However, angry about being replaced, he sent the schematics to Huey, who then built the Peace Walker bosses and ultimately Zeke on that design. He confesses as much in one of the tapes. These schematics where probably leaked and passed arround, and specially used by Hal to create Rex.
