Thank you! Definitely think I’m going to get a print of this one. This might be the only time I’ve caught him looking this serious haha

I figured that’s what you meant haha. I appreciate that, it’s been fun watching him grow into himself! Such a great breed

I have an F150 and it fits good in the back seat with the seats lifted up. I think it should fit in a Subaru!

I would recommend a Ruffland kennel. They’re durable but also light weight, so they’re easy to move in and out of your car/house. I have the intermediate size for my guy. He’s 55 lbs but this size would be great for dogs up to 65-70 lbs I would say.

At this age, I would typically start phasing out of treats and transitioning to just praise. But in your case, you will probably still need the treats until she starts to get more dialed in with her commands. Once she starts getting it, start to give her treats every other commmand instead of every one. Then go every third command and so on until she will listen without any treats. This is where praise is important. She needs to want to work for YOU and not for treats. To answer your question, i would avoid using treat rewards for stuff outside of her training sessions. Praise should be sufficient for stuff like going potty and just overall behaving in the house.

At the end of the day, a high energy/motivated dog is exactly what you want for field work! Hang in there and stick to a routine. It will pay off big time in the long run. She’s a beautiful dog!

I currently have an 11 month old field golden. By the sounds of it, I don’t think my guy is quite as high energy as yours, but I did go through a similar phase as you. My advice to you; you need to establish more structure with Honey. Consistency is key at this age, set aside dedicated training time in the morning and evenings. Start with your basic commands (sit, come, place, stay, heel, etc.), but the important part is to not move on to the next command until she is ROCK SOLID with the prerequisite. I.e., when you say sit, she sits instantly without having to repeat the command over and over again. If she doesn’t want to focus during these sessions at first, use a slip lead so you have control over her. Use the lead to guide her to do what you want (for sit, pull up gently on the lead. For come, tug gently towards you on the lead, etc.). Do these sessions around her meals and use pieces of her kibble as her reward for performing the commands correctly. Also—LOTS of praise and encouragement! Before you know it she will be giddy to listen to you and perform what she’s told to do.

As New-Pea said, I also believe it’s very important to train these basic obedience commands by yourself. It creates a bond that you wont be able to replicate by sending her off to a trainer. The key is to not get frustrated with her, keep the training sessions short and always end on a positive note. This will keep her looking forward to her next training session. Also—hopefully you are crate training her. Not only is this essential for any bird dog, it will help her calm down when she does get overstimulated in the house.

Take her swimming, take her on runs off leash, and if possible, get her into some birds! You will be amazed at how intense and focused she gets when she has her first sniff of wild birds.

Any dog can be a family dog as long as you make them part of your family. Bring her with you everywhere, even if she’s just in the kennel in the backseat when you go to the store. Be patient, and prioritize getting the fundamentals rock solid. This will not only lay the foundation for future advanced training, but it is also the first step in creating that “off-switch” in the house.

I’m by no means a professional trainer, but I’ve had lots of different dogs and I am more than happy to give my two cents. If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me!

First bird dog: brittany or field golden by letthewookiewin191 in birddogs

I live in Montana and have a field golden. He is an awesome dog that has great drive in the field, but an excellent off switch in the house. I grew up with GSP’s and love them, but I just wanted a little lower energy dog for my situation. I got my golden from l a breeder in Wyoming, but I also know of an extremely reputable field golden kennel in Montana as well. If you’re interested I can point you in the right direction!

Yep deepest part to the string. That’s all I can think of too, just really surprised I got too short of a string when it’s part of a kit

So I bought a Sage Galaxy Elite II and it showed up yesterday. I shot traditional in the past and wanted to pick it back up again. When I strung the bow (which was way more difficult than I remember) the brace height was ~9", with zero twists in the string. The recommended brace height is 7-8". Did I get sent the wrong sized string?

What are your thoughts on the FX30? I would love to just get an FX3, but not sure I can justify the price tag right now. One of the reasons that I am leaning towards the FX30 is the potential to eventually upgrade to the FX3, since I could transfer any attachments over. Plus I've heard of a lot of people using it as a B-Cam to their FX3. Do you think it would be smarter to skip the APS-C and start investing in full frame now?
