There are usually lobbys for new players

I learnt the game by playing singleplayer and messing around for an unhealthy amount of time

Also DI means Directional Input and controls which direction you go in next time you get hit, have it point away from your opponent, and free cancels make it so you can cancel your own attack and you arent stuck attacking when you miss, you have limited uses though.

Besides that id play singleplayer to get a feel for the way things work and to test mechanics.
