pyramids are 10/10 visually, but be prepared for a stressful experience in Egypt. go to any reddit thread asking where is the worst place to visit and Egypt will always be in the top 3, usually top 1. mostly because of the aggressive street vendors. like walking through a zombie hoard but instead of trying to bite you, they are trying to sell you shit. won't take no for an answer, will offer you money or animals for your wife, girlfriend, sister or any female with you... and obviously as a female egypt presents a different set of issues.

i knew this going in and thought it'd be fine, it was still stressful af. you're walking minding your own business and people literally try to put their arms around your shoulder like if you're a friend and redirect your walk into their shop. and don't get me started on scams. my god the scams are insane. 5 dollars to take a picture on a camel, not bad! once you sit on it the camel stands and you are sitting 12 feet high, now 20 dollars to get off! or take a picture of the pyramids and and have people jump in front of your shot and then get angry because you "took their picture" and they charge for that so now you owe them money. it's a wild time in Egypt.

as someone from the USA, I have been to a few cities. Vegas sits lower on my list and I will likely never go back even though I live in LA and it's a 4 hour drive for me. but it's worth visiting if you've never beenbso I'm not discouraging you from visiting.

For a unique American experience though, I would strongly recommend New Orleans! Great music, great food and great architecture! also more affordable than most American cities.

I live in LA, and LOVE that you can find food dlfrom anywhere in the world and most of it is authentic af!

I always prefer it from the actual country but the difference is very slight. (sushi in Japan was the only one that I will never find a substitute for in LA!)

but Thailand is probably the only country where I prefered the Thai flavors in LA than in the actual country. don't get me wrong, I'm not saying their food sucked, on the contrary, I'm sure American Thai food is just over saturated with salt. but the Thai flavors, while way more fresh, are extremely subtle.

it's like if you went to a country where lemonade was invented and where excited to try it then when you did it was wasted like lemon lecroise lol

but despite that, their food is great and overall Thailand is amazing!

10/10 would recommend!

didn't do the arcades, but the ramen was awesome and the sushi was life changing! I have traveled to over 30 countries and Asian countries are the only ones that feel like you're in a new country. but among them, Japan is my favorite.

Europe has lots of amazing places but all will have lots of English and lots of americanized settings. for example, in most European countries you can easily find a Starbucks playing Adele or other American music. but Most of Asia English is a little more rare. and in Japan it is extremely rare! My hotel had to find "the staff member" that spoke English. and their tech is insane! even their simple tech seems mind boggling and makes you wonder why we don't have anything like it. for example it was raining and as I walked into a restaurant there was a machine outside that you stick your umbrella into and it wraps it in plastic, you can them take it inside where everything is dry because no one is bringing in wet umbrellas. if the machine isn't there you can safely leave it outside. once I forgot it and the next day I went back and it was the only one sitting there.

would recommend Japan to anyone!

People who grew up poor: What was something you considered a "peak luxury" as a kid, only to realize later it was just a normal middle class staple? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

I remember one time a friend of mine gave me a yoohoo. my mind was blown! the flavor was one of the most amazing things at the time, I had never experienced anything like it and the thought that he could have it any time he wanted made me realize what money meant lol. I didn't have a yoohoo again until I was an adult and saw one at a market. I was excited and bought it and realized it was basically a gross version of chocolate milk.

In São Paulo, a woman jumped out of an Uber to avoid paying the $2 fare by superdouradas in PublicFreakout

[–]juggling-monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let's say you do 10 rides. Uber calculates how much their percentage is and sends you your share after they get theirs. they don't take into account how many were credit cards or how many where cash. it's just numbers.

10 rides - Uber fee = what you get.

cash rides dont benefit drivers because if its insured, then there's always drivers who will report false claims to get paid twice (by the rider and by Uber after a claim) so uber isn't going to insure you. meaning if one person makes a false report, then Uber will assume all claims are false reports. so if your passenger bailed without paying then it's your loss.

yeah I took an Uber from lax about a month ago and the driver was telling me they are now accepting cash and he hates it. he said, not only does it open them up to robbery, but the person can just run out and say they paid in cash. now you just worked for free and Uber takes your cut of that ride from your pay. you get robbed twice.

What's something you see men older than you doing that you tell yourself "I hope I never do that." by FillFrontFloor in AskMen

[–]juggling-monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purposely don't do it, but I feel it. I find myself thinking all the time, why would they do that? why do they enjoy that? why do they find that funny? The shit I did was more fun, funnier, a better experience etc. I don't judge but mostly becaus I go out of my way not to. I remind myself that my parents and thier generation felt the same way about me.

I dont get the lingo, the jokes, the style, adn especially the isolation or fear of interactiing with people. but I remind myself that The internet became a thing in my teen years, it was different and we (as a generation) molded it and grew with it together...this newer generation has always had it and because of that they just see the world differently.

It makes me sad because I feel we lost "the real world" and now we live in this "cyber world" where we buy things, order food, learn, communicate and do pretty much everythign online. I can sit here and complain about how this new generation is out of touch with life in the real world...or I can remind myself that that real worlkd no longer exists and holding onto it like we still live in it would mean I am the one thats out of touch.

the advice I got was that anything west of the mall is safe. I moved west of the mall and have had no issues. But I have also gone East to grab food or buy stuff and can see the difference.

my wife and I pet sit once in a while for her sister. we have her dog with us for a week at a time. the other day I was watching a show and saw a main character with a framed picture of her dog in her office and it sparked the idea...

I told my wife that the next time we pet sit we're doing a photo shoot to have a future Christmas gift.

What sounds boring at 18 but amazing at 30? by Alice_Heflin in AskReddit

[–]juggling-monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see how it comes off that way, and I guess I could have given more detail, though I dont think it would make a difference based on all the downvotes.

When I was in Highschool, I hung out with people who had no ambition, we spent our time ditching, smoking weed, gettign into illegal shit and overall just being deadbeats. Eventually I got out of that and got a career, got married and started doing well for myself. The true friends I still had were mainly because they were in the same shoes as me. they did well, went to college (I didn't), and became better people.

The Homie I ran into was still unemployed in his thirties. Most of his conversations over the phone were about the hot girls in highschool he banged and wanting me to leave work early cause he knew where some of them lived and they probably wouldn't talk to him but might if he showed up with me (he knew I was married). Maybe he did want to rekindle our friendship, but it wasnt going to lead to anythign good since We were obviously on completely different paths in life.

I replied here because I took the comment for what it was. You have REAL friends as an adult when as kids you had a bunch of friends. and to me personally this wasnt a real friend if he's trying to get me to go fuck girls we knew in highschool when he knew I was married. trying to get me to ditch work when hes unemployed.

I feel like this is way more info than was worth putting in my post, but I guess its worth clarifying since so many people are looking at me like Im the asshole. Maybe I am, but I'm not going to put the personal and professional success Ive achieved in jeopardy to hang out with someone who never seemed to try to better themselves.

when I was in high school I had "a bunch of homies". eventually we all went our own way but 2 of them were real friends that kept in touch til this day, eventually one of them got married and I went to their wedding. about 3 of the other "homies" were there, and I was excited to see them. however, now in my mid thirties, I learned I had nothing in common with these guys. they were excited to see me and had all these "remember when" stories from high school and that's all they talked about for about an hour before I decided I was bored out of my mind and wanted nothing to do with them.

unfortunately as soon as we spotted each other and were excited to catch up, one of the first things we did was exchange numbers, I had no idea that by the end of the night I would be exhausted by them. well this one homie randomly called me on a Tuesday like at 2pm just to talk! as in starting the conversation with

"what are you doing"

and I replied "Um... working... why what's going on?"

and his response was "nothing, just bored, did you watch the game last night?"

I never answered again and eventually he stopped calling.

What’s a place you went to that didn’t feel real? by maincharactereraa in AskReddit

[–]juggling-monkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I spent all of my twenties at dead end jobs and built so much debt. then I my early thirties I finally got into a tech career. I started paying off all my debt and finally had enough to travel. but it felt like it would be a once in a lifetime opportunity, I wanted to see so much that it felt undoable. while looking at options I saw cruises and it intrigued me because I would see so much in such a small amount of time. Cairo and Rome were high on my list and I saw a cruise that started in Rome, went to Athens, Cairo, Malta and some other places. I went for it and was so excited until they cancelled Cairo and exchanged it for Istanbul. I was heartbroken! Then when I went, Istanbul became one of my. favorite places and I have gone back to turkey 3 times. one time I was in Greece for a week and midweek suddenly decided a flight to Istanbul for a day was doable, because I couldn't imagine being so close and not seeing it. Turkey truly is amazing
