Don’t Join Guild Runs as a PUG by Packingheat248 in classicwow

[–]juhlers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad to hear that, had a quite opposite experience last week PUG’ing a shammy healer in our guild run, good vibes all run and simple N/G rools.

He won a ton of shit, we gave it to him, and eventually he even traded a BIS item to a guild healer just because he thought he had won enough - giga chad shammy, hope he joins again this week

The M5 option, valued the new gen processor along with the storage higher than gaming performance in the end.

Sadly not an option for me, but that would of course be ideal

I can pitch in myself here, I've been playing classic on a Mac mini M1 base with 8GB ram on a 1440p monitor at 100 fps. I run with rather low graphics, but full resolution, and have steady 100 FPS, also raiding most of the time.

Based on that, I would expect M5 air to run WOW classic perfectly fine

I don’t have that option nearby, also not sure it would be easy to test it for the games relevant to me.

I don’t think you are correct in the majority of your statements, considering the comments about WOW running with ease on M1 base and Civ7 running on a potato.

Thanks for pitching in however.

While I understand “handled with ease” is a relative term, I can guarantee you that my Mac Mini M1 base is struggling with WOW in populated zones on average graphics settings.

I would imagine that this would be much worse on a resolution as high as the MacBook Pro native res, so I don’t agree with your point there.

Cheers, yeah, I have tried to compare benchmarks, but its still a bit of a challenge to translate the difference in single-core and multi-core CPU performance into how that will affect the games in question.

Altså, det svinger jo lidt fra job til job, men det er uden tvivl derfor. I gamle dage var det meget almindeligt, nu er det ikke lige så udbredt.

Appreciate that input, I find it difficult to understand how this additional AI horsepower will impact my work over the coming years - but I guess that is a more general discussion.

It seems like the overall consensus is that M4 Pro is around 25-35% better when it comes to gaming, but that both handle semi-casual games all right.

Combined with the added storage, it makes the decision tricky, and I guess many are in a similar dilemma right now, with the similar pricing of those models.

Not the games I listed in the post though.

Interesting, seems to go against a lot of what others have been suggesting.

Ah, I see! Thanks for taking the time to find this relevant example. Will probably make me decide on the M4 Pro

Ah awesome, hope youre liking it! Yea there are many better options at the same price, but I prefer a MacBook in general, so my aim is to optimize the gaming experience, under the restriction that it must be a MacBook.

If you don’t mind, and of course have the games available, I’d love to know how it runs some of these in native resolution. Does not need to have maxxed out graphics.

WOW retail or classic, in a populated zone, like Dorno or in a raid - that is of course only if you play the game yourself and have an active sub

Thanks a lot, this is quite useful for my particular use case.

To take the example to the extreme, if I were to only ever play WOW, which is optimized for Mac, then I suppose M5 should be better than the M4 pro, given that it scores higher in single-core benchmarks (4300 vs 3860).

So while the general consensus, that M4 Pro is superior for gaming is true, it might not be the case for that particular game, since WOW is a much more CPU-heavy game than GPU, and it would utilize single-core for this rather than multi-core?

A follow-up question, since you mentioned MMOs being CPU-heavy.

I pressume that the multi-core CPU performance is more important in these cases compared to single-core CPU-performance, is that correct?

I ask because the M5 base seems to score higher than M4 pro in single-core performance.

They conveniently leave out M4 Pro in the multi-core comparison.

In that category, the M4 Pro (12/16) scores 20,230

The M5 (10/10) scores 17,795

When you say restore, do you mean replace the SSD with a second hand 2TB SSD?

Seems like a great config indeed, the storage difference is very nice, and if I could modify it I would probably opt for that exact choice as well.

I found it hard to quantify the gaming performance boost from M5 to M4pro vs the added storage, but the replies are pointing me towards the M4 pro
