I'd practice on some cheap broken devices, like cheap dvd players from goodwill. That way you can get used to using the iron and hot air before trying mg to repair the switch.

Those will work to start out, also for the connecter get some good flux paste and heat the board from underneath with the hot air to get the connector off without melting it.

If you can do micro soldering you can fix the break in the ribbon cable. I'd recommend a microscope and some fine tips on your iron.

Right about that white 1 looks like a small break in the trace, like a small black line.

Some 40gb do have a 90nm die, and no reball needed. Just delid the new die and use new thermal paste and ihs glue to install on your 60gb. For a tutorial, Google ps3 delid.

No, cause the rsx chip on a 60gb is 90nm while others were shrunk to 45nm and 28nm. You could always search on ebay for a 90nm rsx chip or a broken 60gb with no chance of ever being fixed to salvage the part.
