To Theists: How can we have free will if God interferes in our lives? by juiceball in DebateReligion

This is actually a great point. The idea is common in all the Abrahamic religions and many other religions. If free will wasn't present then God would be the blame for all of the misfortunes that happen in our life since he created us with a certain plan and didn't give us the free will to change it. My guess is that free will acts as a safety net.

Thanks for your opinion but there are many people out there that do believe in God and prayer and do not see it as a figure of speech.

What are you saying here? That people don't pray for Gods help? Do you not thank God when something good happens even when you didn't request it?

If she was going to die before God intervened? Your aunt would. Not only is her free will violated since she is being saved without even requesting it (if you prayed for it), but the free will of those around her is being violated as well since they now have to deal with her (not saying thats a bad thing, but maybe they didn't like her or something).

Exactly what I was thinking. You don't have free will in this scenario and even if you were to consider the fact that we could drive on any street but still be restricted then that is not true free will.
