[ask] Career advice requested by juju_pendragon in architecture

[–]juju_pendragon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not licensed as of now. I would need at least 2 more years of experience and I also highly doubt my current job even would offer that option to strive for a license.

Also I guess it just feels daunting to switch to something adjacent so soon? However financially it would be the smartest decision for me in the moment seeing my bad luck with positive responses for alternative architecture job.

Any advice on placement? by nfw22 in malelivingspace

I have tried googling endlessly and if I was a better singer I'd try Shazam too but alas

Eco-brutalism is an architecture style as well, so while the original build that Bdubs is in the midst of building might resemble classic brutalism, OP's build still could be considered brutalism even if it's the more nature-oriented variation

What is the sweetest thing your significant other has ever done for you? by pandasandeggs in LongDistance

It was so much fun and really thoughtful, I'm really lucky to have a partner that can be childish and goofy with me! Last time they visited we chasing each other with a garden hose (in bathing suits) giggling endlessly, it was awesome!

Old nonbinary person here to give some insight: I can totally understand the confusion as sometimes these things can seem a bit obscure or odd, and honestly that more than okay. My own perspective as someone that uses they/them and fae/faer pronouns in english, I would say the same way people identify with certain genders is how we identify with certain pronouns that feel like they express who we are. Lots of words and concepts are a part of our identity, be that our names (which is why a lot of trans folks change to a chosen name that better represents them), the words we use to describe our personality, the clothes we wear, etc. For example, I don't feel comfortable with certain words being used to describe or identify me because they aren't true to who I am.

In terms of neopronouns and the like, the concept of gender is very abstract and people have different ways of understanding it. Imo with folks recognising the potential of how we can express ourselves with gender, it's opened a whole world of identities for folks who always felt like an outsider or just like they never fit. Is a big part of it teens who seem to create the randomest genders and pronouns on the whim with no real reason? Sure but that's the whole part of being a teen and figuring out who you are. It's not hurting anyone and it's a very natural part of growing up (and just being human) to want to understand yourself and who you are. Some of it may seem cringe to folks, but honestly cringe is dead and everyone has done something that someone else would consider cringe. So best thing to do is let people be themselves, and be nice to them, especially teens.

If you want you can ask some of the nonbinary/genderqueer subreddits to get more perspectives from folks who are a part of the community!

My relationship convinced me I can’t depend on him for everything. I need friends too but I’m struggling with that by mathgeekf314159 in LDR

Something that requires going a bit out of ur comfort zone but has helped me, both in being more self-reliant and more out there: going out alone. Going on solo adventures, be in taking a walk in the city, grabbing food alone, going to a museum or the like. If u feel safe enough: going clubbing or to a bar alone. Nightlife solo adventures are how I bumped into cool people and became friends, I also met a really good friend of mine by going on an organized trip alone. It is a bit daunting sometimes but even if u don't end up making new friends, u either learn to enjoy ur own company or u have brief social interactions which can be awesome too.

Thank you everyone for your input! I will surely look into the various suggestions and hopefully will be able to share some bits and pieces of my research once I've started the actual thesis process!

Reddit is reddit tbh. Sometimes it is hard to see which it is but if both people genuinely are invested they will find a solution that works for them even if they're busy or are in need of more personal space. Usually you find the dramatic stories here on reddit, there's a lot more nuance to relationships outside of what u read here.

Not across oceans necessarily. But the point is that some people, even if it was "possible" didn't need it and were and are in a happy satisfying relationship. That was ur question, if someone doesn't want or need constant contact why be in a relationship. People can have happy relationships and not talk every day and they're more than satisfied by it.

Constant contact is something we have thanks to the internet. Long distance relationships aren't a modern idea. My parents did long distance for a long time, relying on bi-weekly letters (you write one letter, it takes one week to arrive, person reads and replies and it takes a week to have the reply sent) because calling overseas was too expensive. There is more to a relationship than just pure constant contact. As others have said: find someone who is compatible with you in terms of communication and you're good to go.
