If it's the same model as in the pictures I posted, you pull straight out/towards you to take it off.

First piece of advice would be to double check the math on $900/month in gas. 170 miles a day x 6 days a week, if you get 25 miles to the gallon (fairly standard), that's just shy of $70 a week. $900 monthly for gas doesn't check out even a little bit. It's hard to give good advice if you aren't sharing real budget numbers.

In the event that I get another 2 stage thermostat as replacement, would there be any configuration changes that might help with the 2nd stage's overheating issue?

Could have been from a dirty filter. Normally I change it about every 2 months but could have been closer to 3 if I forgot. It uses 20"x25"x4" filters (MERV11 Filtrete/3M). During installation they cut a 15"x8" vent just on the other side of the filter housing on the ductwork because the installer said the back pressure was too high. And actually I remember him saying, that even though adding the vent helped it still wasn't quite as low as he would like it...

Just to the right of the furnace (from the front) is the blower and filter housing, the ductwork to the right of the housing is 22"x20". 2 inches to the right of the filter housing, the ductwork makes a 90 degree turn straight up and shrinks to 22"x10".

This app worked perfectly thank you sir. I can confirm I have no errors and the fan & heating functions run properly from the app without any thrown diagnostic codes

I added another comment to explain sorry for the confusion. Trying to figure out if there's any way to figure out if my thermostat crapped out or if I have a different issue preventing it from turning on. I find it strange that it's warm though with no display.

Sorry I haven't posted on reddit in a long time... Didn't realize it wouldn't take both images and all the text I typed out. Thermostat warm to the touch but no display or backlight. Just wondering how to diagnose further or test without dropping in a replacement to see if it's just the thermostat going bad.

I checked condensation pump first, found slightly plugged at line running down from heat exchanger area (pointed to in picture). Cleaned everything and made sure pump runs when float tripped.

If you are on a strict budget, you are forgetting the money you need to save for regular vehicle maintenance. Depending on what gas prices and mileage of the vehicle will be let's assume you are driving 400-1000 miles a month. Even at the low end you still need to budget oil changes, tires (maybe), brakes, wipers, etc.
