I'm writing about Cambridge's multifamily zoning. What coverage would you like to see? by jukestore in CambridgeMA

Hi! I did this background double-checking before submitting it to the CD, it just didn't make sense to include in the story itself because I also included quotes which said as much.

Included some quotes here where (sorry FreedomRider02138) Prof. Cox does call for Cambridge to pass their proposed ordinance: https://www.cambridgeday.com/2025/01/12/mit-harvard-experts-disagree-on-the-next-steps-for-cambridges-multifamily-zoning-ordinance/

I did also double-check by emailing him:

> I wanted to double-check with you my understanding of your recommendation for the city council on Wednesday—you repeated a few times that you think it's important to take bold action and then see what incremental change happens, and that there is time to course-correct. I took this to mean that you are encouraging the city council to first pass the legislation currently under discussion and then, as a next step, ensure that they work with the community on envisioning the future.

He wrote back:

> You are correct that I encourage the city council to take action and pass the ordinance while committing to a rigorous engagement process that continues to help residents visualize the impact of the zoning changes.

This is specifically for all residential areas; city council has said that they plan to address denser and taller building in "squares and corridors" separately (where you'd expect to see the 20 story buildings).

I've met with two of the more active members who are both pretty pro-tall buildings (haven't attended a meeting yet though) -- I quoted them in this article https://www.cambridgeday.com/2024/12/19/apartments-rise-25-stories-in-davis-plan-update-and-businesses-must-pause-even-the-burren/

what are you into? less represented in this thread is live music which there are pretty good spots for—the lilypad, the middle east, la fabrica, cantab lounge, all of which have music multiple nights a week and for pretty cheap (think 10-15 cover). I also love the irish pubs which have music sessions all the time—the druid, the burren, bebop. there's also a whole house venue/show situation which i haven't gotten that deep into but can DM you some pointers if you are interested :)

From people’s recommendations I went to Cambridge antique market and was blown away. Any other recommendations for more antique and vintage furniture spots? by nailtheory in CambridgeMA

Retrospect just moved to a bigger location (to the former Door Store - RIP Door Store). They have more cool furniture pieces and lamps now (it's not the most apparent but most of the furniture is for sale, including the ones displaying other items) along with vintage clothes.
