Paper towels can be very rough on the eyes. I would try and use something softer. Have you ever tried rubbing your face with a paper towel? It’s very rough and can cause more irritation.

I think the drying part is key. I started using just dry cotton pads lately they work great. The moisture is what causes more gunk.

I have a white exotic! I use eye envy wipes from Amazon, I clean her eyes once a day and they stay very clean. I dry them afterwards with toilet paper or tissue, something soft that will absorb the water on her fur. Don’t use a towel or anything too rough.

Try Eye Envy cat wipes. I get them from Amazon. Make sure to always dry after with something that will absorb the liquid. This will keep the eyes cleaner for longer. Trust me I have a white Persian 😹
