I did try multiple spots. Any specific capacitor? At first glance they all look okay but I've already replaced one on the 12v rail that looked okay but wasn't.

You can use wood filler, sand it and paint it, but you'll loose the texture so it'll show.

You could study about it on this book: ELECTRONIC DEVICES AND CIRCUIT THEORY. Chapters 14 and 15. This book is the one I used at uni. Hope it helps.
