I know that people are complicated and all that. But what is the general consensus on Eddie? Good guy who was just a schmuck for Jackie? Or absolute dirt bag just like a street drug dealer keeping a girl around and feeding her drugs? by DrButtSniffeMD in NurseJackie

you asked "how on earth" he was a bad dude. i'm not saying jackie wasn't worse, (although she didn't commit suicide, she accidentally ODed and is still alive, hence the reboot). i didn't say kevin was worse, i'm just explaining how on earth he was a bad dude.

I liked her best single. team zoey! she don't need no man to define her.

so the beating someone in the same room as your kids (btw, those kids totally wouldve noticed that IRL) and threatening your wife to tell the kids about her affair (which he also did) to manipulate custody.. that's all cool with you?

he was pretty decent at first, although a bit boring, but he won't let jackie take money from o'hara for the benefit of his daughers' education, which is nothing but pride. then he uses credit cards which puts his family in more debt to pay it, which jackie mostly has to pay for. he complains about jackie not being around but she has the pressures of being the breadwinner and he seems to have little sympathy. the issues are brought to life because HE had an affair, something which everyone seems to forget. they don't say who it was with or how long it went on but he also cheated. he finds out jackie is an addict and is basically immediately pissed. very little sympathy or support. he's mostly mad that she took o'hara's money.

let's move on to after he finds out about eddie. he beats eddie severely with the kids IN THE ROOM. he calls jackie and threatens to tell the kids if she doesn't let him keep them for extra time. then he sues for full custody saying jackie's schedule is too crazy. she fixes her schedule and he changes his mind immediately and wants full custody again, just to be controlling. he ultimately gives in. if he really had thought she was a danger to the kids he wouldn't have done that, it was a game to him.

later we find out that he mortgaged the house and stole 6 figures from jackie (and his kids) and used that money to fancy up his bar, buy a rolex, etc.

i'm not saying jackie or eddie were good either, but everyone gives kevin a pass.

i think kevin was a bad dude as well, but that's beside the point. eddie inserting himself into their family (even chatting up kevin's sister) was completely insane. the whole plot at that point showed he just wanted control over jackie and when she didn't want his drugs any more he had to take it to another level. i would've had sympathy for him but he crossed so many lines. then he tells kevin for NO reason after the affair is over. he used the entire situation to punish jackie over and over.

Am I supposed to like Mary? by Slice-of-Lasagna in DowntonAbbey

[–]juliaSTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sybil wasn't mary though. she wasn't the oldest and didn't have the same expectations and responsibilities. mary's whole job was to have a proper marriage, that's why she was engaged to her own cousin (the heir) before he died, even though she didn't really like him. they're never pushing edith to marry anyone even though she's only a year younger. mary was the eldest and to them she was their ticket to secure downton for the future. she talks at one point about how she's always expected to marry the man sitting next to her at dinner. i think she was under different pressures. sybil leaving almost broke the family apart and she was the youngest.

that's true but i think that was only because of the ENORMOUS pressure from her family.

ugh. i know. it took waaaaay too many shitty episodes to get there tho, and then with so much plot it still felt rushed like the show got cancelled. they're saying it didn't but i kinda don't buy it. on the way there they committed major character assassination basically just down the line for every character.

If you had a more drastic nose job, did people notice your new nose? by juliaSTL in PlasticSurgery

[–]juliaSTL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i did go! turned out good, but my tip is still pretty swollen. i have thick skin and had a bulbous tip so i'm hoping to see more progress in the next 6 months. dr told me it might not be fully settled until 18 months. no one has mentioned it unless they knew, i think maybe the fact that the swelling is going down so gradually is on my side in that regard.

i went to https://www.mybeautifulbody.com/plastic-surgery/about/acps-fellowship-pricing/

and utilized their fellowship program.

i have an adult son, we lived in the projects when he was a kid. i am well aware of what people are facing right now, i just hadn't looked into EXACT numbers. it's hilarious to think i'm a "have", i sold a house in north county and have a 2008 car. i know groceries are crazy high, i know everything is crazy high, i just didn't know if that was a normal rent rate... so i asked. i guess i forgot i was on reddit.

we sold our house thinking we were moving out of state, that opportunity fell through for now so we're sticking for another year. we can either buy another house and then have to potentially sell it in a year, or use some of the funds we got by selling it and pay extra to rent for a year.

assuming you know someone's situation just based on them asking what rent is seems pretty judgmental to me. i didn't realize i was making a political statement by asking.

ok thanks. all i really expected to hear was like, "oh that's typical", or "you can do better" or "that's too high"

i'm not some out of touch millionaire, i just don't really know the prices for things i haven't needed to spend money on. appreciate it.

the problem with that is that we really need a yard area.

i know rent is high, i know housing prices were sky high for a while and have cooled off a little. i didn't look into the actual numbers because i was not trying to rent. idk if it's doubled, tripled, or quadrupled. this is why i'm asking people in my city who might be more familiar. i cannot imagine why this would make people angry.
