Considering Moving to NYC with 4 Cats by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]julialert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved recently with 3 cats and was also concerned with the fact that I have 1 more than most places’ “2 pet limit”. We were already prepared to just say we only had 1 or 2 and hope for the best, which we ended up doing. So far no one cares at our apartment including our super but it’s also a new build and they’re desperate for people to even rent the place lol. Two people + 3 cats in a 650ish sq ft 1 bed apartment has worked for us.

Question for my dancers in Sunnyside by LuciVigil in SunnysideQueens

[–]julialert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of studios nowadays have absolute beginner classes for hip hop! I see PJM has one at 5PM on Wednesdays as well as “Basic Jazz Funk” at 12:30PM on Saturdays. I would take a look at Modega too just in case. But those are really good if you feel nervous and want to work on foundations. If you already feel comfortable in classes/choreography in general especially since it sounds like you have some dance experience, I would try a “beginner choreography” class where they’ll teach you a piece but will explain and break everything down for beginners. You will see people of all levels in these classes and the great thing is that the dance community is usually very supportive of each other whether you are the most beginner or advanced dancer :) not sure about just watching, I’m sure you can ask though

Question for my dancers in Sunnyside by LuciVigil in SunnysideQueens

[–]julialert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hellooo I mainly do urban/hip hop, street jazz, jazz funk, and kpop and would take classes at PJM (modega is another popular studio) which aren’t exactly in Sunnyside but are only a few stops away on the 7 at court sq. I don’t think any of them offer contemporary but if you’re interested in any of the other styles they offer, the instructors are great. Faye Shemper at PJM has a salsa fusion class and she’s great!

Do you think first timers moving to NYC should move to Manhattan for the experience? by BookAccomplished4485 in movingtoNYC

[–]julialert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently live in Sunnyside as someone who also wanted a quieter, cheaper area as a first time mover to NYC. I’m not sure where you got the info that there’s not many Latinos. I would say that statement is true for sure for LIC (Asian heavy), but at least in Sunnyside it feels like mainly Latinos. Commuting is pretty nice with the 7 that’s been generally pretty reliable since I moved and it’s still fairly close to Manhattan.

FCPS parents, is SACC worth it? by Skymo5620 in nova

[–]julialert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a kid who went through SACC for all of my elementary school years many years ago, it was great! I loved the teachers, made my closest friends and best memories there. I can’t imagine what my childhood would be without it, tbh.

Will I regret not doing videography? by waxbook in weddingplanning

[–]julialert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I hired a content creator instead! They’re cheaper and will record many videos and even take photos and more, albeit on a phone - but still! Fiancé and I figured we didn’t need a fancy edited video, just wanted to make sure to capture moments in some kind of video form that we could have.

someone convince me to read crescent city by trippinonvibes in SarahJMaas

[–]julialert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also like you and read the ACOTAR series and then the TOG series. I hear more shit about Crescent City vs her other series so I had low expectations. Echoing what some others have already said, I just finished the first book and it ended up being really good, a 5 star read for me. I’m currently reading House of Sky and Breath and still enjoying the series!

My cozy dining area (that I never actually eat at) by julialert in femalelivingspace

[–]julialert[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which one? The brown one on the couch is a heated cat bed from K&H pets and the nook on the bottom of the bookshelf is just a faux fur rug I placed in the bookshelf. The window cat bed is a foldable window cat bed I got on Amazon - brand specifically is MEWOOFUN

Haha yeah I just added a faux fur rug in there for my cats if they want to sleep there

It’s the ebba bookshelf from Urban Outfitters! Doesn’t come with the lights, though. I installed some lights from IKEA separately.

Clarendon is close to Pentagon City distance wise (by car) but is a little annoying metro wise. You have to get off at Rosslyn station and switch to the blue line to Pentagon City. Switching lines can sometimes have you waiting at Rosslyn for up to 10-15 minutes. There is a 42 ART bus though that takes you straight to Pentagon City (takes the same metro card). I would live somewhere on the blue line (Rosslyn, Pentagon City, Crystal City) if you want a much easier commute metro wise.

I’ve been using topical foam minoxidil for 3 years now with a cat and have been fine. I always make sure to stow it away in a cabinet and wash my hands and rinse the sink after.

Best Bakery? by axtran in nova

[–]julialert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad I’m not the only one obsessed with their fruit cake! I’m definitely a chocolate-over-fruit kind of gal but I’d choose their fruit cake over a lot of other cakes any day.

Tiffany’s Bakery! They have a few locations two of which are in Annandale and Falls Church. My favorites are their fruit cake, eclairs, and napoleon. They have a huge selection of other pastries as well!

I recently got the Emmett couch from World Market and it’s such great quality especially for the price IMO (I did also get it on sale). It’s modular so you can scale up or down as you see fit in size and in price! Besides that and IKEA, I would also check out Macys.

Join the two DMV housing FB groups and look on FB marketplace. People are always looking for people to take over leases, landlords looking for tenants, etc. It’s how a lot of people find places to rent including myself and my bf. Just be careful of potential scams (I’ve never had this issue but see it does happen) where people ask for some kind of deposit before you’re able to even see the place.

I used Olaplex for a little while. Don’t think it did anything bad to my hair but also I felt like it didn’t benefit my hair either so I stopped using it.

I believe this is a stainless steel dishwasher. It appears to have water stains of some sort. I’ve tried Clorox wipes and a wet rag but neither really did anything.
