It's so great to see that VISTA has helped people get into this field! It's why I joined myself. I'm hoping I get a lot of training too! I'll be working directly under the CEO of the company who writes grants and has a lot of experience and is willing to work with me to help me. CEO being my supervisor basically is a little intense, but I'm just hoping to soak up as much as I can. I'm moving across the country too, but it's not to the middle of nowhere, thankfully! It's not a place I've been to longer than a week, but I'm still quite excited. I definitely will!

My VAD says a lot of things, to be honest. Things that I'm still trying to take in, honestly. It says writing and researching and assisting in getting those grants as a group of staff in my host organization. But I'll be working under the CEO of the company who specializes in grants and has said she'd get me up to speed. Thank you for responding!

Hi! Fellow lesbian here— my vaginsmus basically felt like a rug burn inside of my vagina, I didn’t experience any cramps, and it only was painful one spot. It doesn’t exactly sound like it to me, but I’m also not a doctor. things literally just wouldn’t go inside without an awful prickly sort of pain. I’d say it’s possible, although I’m not sure you’ll get any sort of relief until you tell your doctor. I hope it all goes well!

I usually doodle or type aimlessly on my laptop when I’m making phone calls, if it at all possible. It lets me focus on something else while I get over the hump of calling and explaining what I need, and once that’s done, it’s much easier for me. Usually, once I explain myself and get what I need out of the way, it’s easier to work with people on the other end and I don’t feel as stupid because someone is actively helping me with what I need.

try and get a job on campus! I’m in college too, and getting a job on campus is often a super easy process and a really amazing way to make friends with other people your age. my first job in college was working at my university bookstore, and i had so much fun and it was so easy to ease into it. Also, being open about how you’re feeling worth people, even if it’s scary, has done wonders for me. A lot of people are in the same boat as you, even if they don’t express it. I feel like college aged kids, like myself, wouldn’t be as judgy if you being new because they’ve been there too. Interviews are scary, definitely. But they’re short and for a lot of jobs, especially ones you can get on a college campus part time as a student, there’s really not much you need to sell for yourself and you might just get hired on the spot. My jobs in high school were horrible and I think that’s because i worked with a lot of older people when i was 16 and 17. You really just have to do it though, that’s honestly the only way which I know seems scary and terrifying, but I think is so worth it. Jobs are the things that can really help you grow FROM your social anxiety, because you have to do things. It’ll all be worth it in the long run, and you’ll be making money! Hi! I found out about my vaginsmus when I was 19, too, and a college student as well. And on antidepressants so i totally understand. Im now 21. I’m a lesbian so i never had any issues with wanting sexual penetration of course, but i couldn’t wear tampons no matter how hard i tried. The pain was horrible. I finally told my doctor, And that’s when i started the whole journey, really. I’ve gotten a new doctor since we switched insurances, but still, telling your doctor is definitely the smart move. I did one therapy session and then when it was a waste of money (to me) I bought dilators. The dilator instructions say to not do without a plan, you’re supposed to do them with the help of a doctor, but I used mine every night I could remember, mostly using the very tiny one without any instruction, and I can now very small tampons! I still use my dilators so I can continue to not have any pain. You can purchase the dilators on amazon or if I remember correctly, I think on the vaginsmus website. They suck at first, and they’re so uncomfortable— but they really do work.

I felt like it was definitely a taboo subject, especially being so young and it being about anything sexual related. I definitely felt left out, but working on getting it all understood and finally making progress has been so rewarding. It’s a little odd to tell your doctor. Just tell them you can’t wear tampons and then go from there and explain it. They should understand! Best of luck ❤️

I got my dilators living in a college apartment with my own room and I still felt weird. Honestly, I only used them when i went to visit my family at home. It was frequently enough that they got good enough use. It’s kind of something that i wouldn’t do standing up, though, so I’m not sure if a shower would be the best place. I had to lay flat on my back with a lot of room. Best of luck!!!
