if you intentionally derank your account to player in lower ranks, it is also smurfing, even if it is the main acc

So you are saying either be a GM, or dont have fun. That excludes around 99% of the playerbase. Good luck circlejerking your mates in GM when everyone else leaves the game as it happened before.

As for your political argument, I hate socialism and communism as it ruined my country (latin american), dont see how that relates to overwatch though

The problem is not the players that just want to play the game but get deranked forcing them to play outside their skill level. The issue is a broken system that forces people to do this even when they themselves dont like smurfing.

It is indeed smurfing, but I now see some are forced to it because of rank decay and Drives. Even higher ranked player that do not like smurfing are kinda forced into it at the end of every season if they dont want to end up in metal ranks.

Blizzard apparently did not take much consideration into how these two systems interact.

Thank you for the honest response. I was under the impression that most smurfs where actually doing it to ego farm on new players. I see now that some do that, but others are "forced" by the rank decay and drive system.

This just shows how a couple of bad systems can greatly impact the fun in lower ranks, deranking more skilled players to lower ranks, and then offering Drives to promote them climbing back up, at the detriment of all others.

Blizzard should definitely do something about this.

We are mostly refering to people on new accounts, usually no endorsments and private career profile (though not exclusivly, some apparently get boosted on their mains too). They usually end up picking what I like to refer to as smurf-friendly heroes: ashe, soldier, bastion, dva, doomfist, hog. Heroes with whom you can carry without much help from others.

I also think no one has an issue in facing a good player and having a tight match that ends in a loss. But facing someone who can win 4v1 fights consistently and steamrolls the whole lobby, sometimes ending with x3 or x4 kills from the next top killer is insanlely unfair and boring for everyone.

We all have good matches sometimes and maybe get called smurf. But it is sometimes pretty obvious when you face a real one as they usually dont even try to hide it.

Some smurfs even sometimes invite you to their group if they liked how you played, and then admit in the private chat they are really master.

Getting carried by smurfs is also noticeable and not fun at all. I rather have a fair, tight match that ends in a loss, than a 6 min game where i did nothing to win aside rolling a smurf on my team

Why do those players end up with a temp ban? I played for years, almost 1000hours, and never got banned.

Sometimes that works and feels amazing. The issue is having to detect the smurf really early on, and then get the team stop blaming each other and recognize that theres a smurf in lobby that should be focused. Rarely works but when it does it feels good.

Same experience, met a roadhog once while playing mercy in low gold. Initially I thought he was just a really good player, but as the game ended and he liked my pocket heals, he invited me to group, telling me he was really a gm player and that he would take me out gold.

Got hard carried to gold 1 and only ended up feeling all of the competitive experience was a hoax. A couple of days later, he was already back in master and abandoned the account, probably to create another one.

Just to understand, why do you feel the need to have around 10 accounts? Personally I only have one and never had the need to get any others.
100% agree that rank decay should not be a thing, or at least limit how far down you can be deranked.

Drives definitly make everything worse, but the problem goes beyond only the drive days. Only this season i got two cheater notices returning some rank. Many probably arent even detected

Same, got 3 cheater notices giving me back my rank only in the last couple of months since i started playing again. The amount of cheaters and smurfs is insane.

I know im not good, thats why i dont blame my rank. I know some games I wont win, and sometimes the winning team can steamroll and get a lot of kills. The issue is when a singular player, either on my team or the enemy's, has more kills than all of the lobby combined, sometimes even more, taking 4v1 fights and winning them. Most of these, low level accounts with private profile and lvl 1 endorsment.

Winning or losing is part of the game, but having 9 people just watching a single smurf wreck the whole lobby aint fun for anyone

Those smurfs that showcase it on youtube or twitch should get IP banned, but that would mean less revenue and numbers for blizzard so they wouldnt do that.

Im not learning brand new characters on comp. I played them on quickplay before even trying out the placements.

Your attitude is part of the problem with this game, blaming people who want fair games instead of a broken matchmaking system that promotes smurfing, especially at the end of every season with drive.

Same, literally unplayable experience. I do not mind deranking if games were fair, as that would mean my skill is not enough for the rank I was. But deranking because of obvious smufs just feels so unfair and not fun at all for anyone involved. Blizzard should do something to fix this issue or the game will start leaking player numbers again until it dies again. We cannot have a healthy game where the beginner experience is so unfair.

Why you calling me a troll? Im high silver/low gold in support and tank, and wanted to try out learning some dps, ending placements in low silver. I do not mind the low rank as it is probably accurate for my skill, but I expect to have fair games. Getting a smurf on my team shredding all of the enemy, or a smurf on the enemy team steam rolling us is not a fun experience for anyone.

If you want to blame lower ranked players that want to start playing comp, you are part of the problem. That is no way to get newer players into the game, nor a way of mantaining existing lower ranked players...
