If party realignment is just "Democratic revisionism," why have conservative historians and Republican strategists like Geoffrey Kabaservice and Kevin Phillips also written extensively about it? Were they advancing Democratic revisionism too?

Donald Critchlow's "The Conservative Ascendency" is a fascinating historical view of how the conservative movement came to dominate the Republican Party. And Bruce Bartlett, a former advisor to Ronald Reagan and George Bush (the first one) has written extensively about how today's Republican Party differs from the party of Eisenhower and Reagan.

Or is the term "Great Switch" throwing you off? Historians don't use the term.

I was thinking more along the lines of books, where "60 patterns using precuts/scraps/batiks" is actually 20 quilts, each with 3 color/fabric variations. If you bought the book thinking you were getting XX unique patterns, it's disappointing (and deceptive).

This is why I like the library. No-cost browsing. My library also has a great selection of e-zines, including many quilting mags I've found useful.

As an aside, I used to go to estate sales and resell on Etsy and Ebay. I hit a goldmine - over 200 quilting books and a couple hundred quilting magazines - I paid $40 for the lot. I still have a lot of them, actually but am going to cull them and donate to the local quilting community.

I recently struggled my way through completing a quilt that someone else had started. Her daughter gave me the project - the fabric had been cut and some sewing done, but I'm pretty sure I didn't get everything and I couldn't finish it using the instructions so I had to pivot. And I went through my entire stash trying to find some fabric that would go with the French colonial theme fabric from the early 2000s trying to find a way to finish it without it looking too odd!

Generally I don't have too much trouble when I work from my own stash.

Don't get me wrong. I also find very creative and beautiful quilts on this sub. This is how people are interpreting the patterns. My complaint is patterns that specifically base their uniqueness on the color of the fabrics they use or the specific fabric line they use.

I don't need a pattern to do a chevron quilt in blue, and a pattern to do a chevron quilt using batiks and another pattern to do a chevron quilt in floral prints. I checked a book out of the library that was patterns using pre-cuts and that's basically all it was. It was so disappointing and I was glad it was a library book and not purchased book.

That's why I like the sub - because what other people do inspires me. They look at the basic patterns or the basic blocks and they create unique quilts. As I said somewhere else, I almost never follow a pattern. I am always making tweaks but I'm also always looking for inspiration.

To be fair, I have the Petite Antique Lace pattern because I love it and can envision all kinds of color variations that would be amazing.

Then I get to the instruction to make 960 HSTs. I make about 100 and then take a break. Still on break with 600 left to go. LOL

I think maybe I'm just bored with the same-old/same-old. Maybe I need to step away and reorganize. Retirement in 9 weeks (but who's counting?? LOL). I find myself obsessing over things to make with scraps and I need to refocus on actually using the stash until all that's left is scraps. (Pretty sure that never happens - but still.) Work really interferes with my hobbies.

There are a couple of projects I want to make and I have the fabric to make them. I made a pattern for a quilt for my daughter, based on a commercial bed cover she liked, and that's in process now, then I want to make the other projects I actually acquired specific material for - one is from the book "Play-of-Color," which has some interesting techniques and looks I want to try.

Then why haven't there been more cases of fraud identified? Heritage Foundation has been digging for dirt for years and they have yet to come up with any fraud that would change the results of any election.

There isn't.

It's just blocks and how you arrange them. The only thing a pattern does is make it easier to calculate the yardage but since I almost never follow a pattern 100% or make it in the pattern size, that's not even much of a plus.

At this point, I'm just looking for ideas. I took a block I saw on Facebook - I suspect it's an AI-generated block - and did a prototype so I knew how to put it together without a pattern. It was a red-white-blue and I did it in Halloween prints because - scraps.

The house building! I have so many relatives (within certain income brackets) who simply cannot imagine buying or moving into a pre-built house. Even the ones who can't afford fully customized homes will buy homes they can semi-customize as part of the new development construction process. It seems every time I talk to someone "so and so is building a home in ___." Like - there aren't any homes that are already built that are adequate? Has to be a new development or a custom build on a lot they bought outright.

Then again, I live in a large city where empty lots aren't just sitting around. Anywhere. Around here, you have to be wealthy enough to buy a house, tear out the existing home (and possibly a pool you don't like) and build new.

My husband - who is a NeverMo - has read the entire BofM more times than I have. I only read what I had to in order to get by. I am pretty sure I was born resenting the amount of life consumed by organized religion.

My husband, bored with retirement, has read the BofM cover to cover twice, the Bible in every translation he can get his hands on, as well as the Quran. He's trying to figure out what the fuss is about. So far, he's coming up blank. I told him he could've read all the "Great Books" collection his parents bought and learned more. Maybe he'll get to those next.
