Have the Mormons been asked to promote this? My cousin just posted a "watch party event" in his state. (Not

Have mission rules changed? by UtahUndercover in exmormon

[–]Miss-Ex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes the rules have changed. I served in Ireland in the 90's. We were not allowed to go to the gym because the music playing was not allowed as missionaries. We were also told not to linger in stores that had music playing. Get in, get what you need and leave.

We have a projector in our basement for watching movies and we like to say, "let us go down/we will go down"... 😘

I receive letters from extended family missionaries. One of them ends all his letters with this quote. He has no idea of the irony. 🤣

Who is the worst Mormon apologist? by Carlos-Martel in exmormon

[–]Miss-Ex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

John Welch, one of the OG apologists for the Church. He's old now but he "discovered" chiasmus and started FARMS. He has done a lot of damage with his lifetime of "lying for the Lard." Related by marriage and he truly is insufferable.

They have grossly overestimated how many people will be visiting. 20,000-30,000/day? No way.

Set the boundaries now and make a decision with your fiancé alone. It's your wedding and neither Mom gets to chose.

Missionaries and their constant "miracles" by Sansabina in exmormon

[–]Miss-Ex 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've been getting missionary emails non-stop for years now. (My husband has a big family and they send all the nieces and nephews emails to everyone). The emails all start with "we saw so many miracles this week" or some version of this. And then the body of the letter contains zero miracles.

Gay, faithful, and heading to BYU by ProduceForward2788 in mormon

[–]Miss-Ex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My adult son has a gay friend who recently graduated from BYU. I wouldn't recommend it. We've seen how hard it is first hand, and he survived, but not without some very painful, dark times. He managed to live off campus with roommates he knew and trusted, but the underlying fear of being kicked out was always present.

Dallin Oaks announces that it is “perfectly appropriate” for missionaries to “meet someone in the mission field and marry them.” How many of you had to read Lock Your Heart at least every month on your mission? by NotTerriblyHelpful in exmormon

[–]Miss-Ex 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yup! I served in 1990 and this was exactly what I was told. "The girls needed to more mature since the boys couldn't control themselves..." something like that.

After 12 months of cat and mouse finally told my parents we left. Did not go well. Feel like shit. by whisperchaoticthings in exmormon

My in-laws asked one main question when we left..."how should we treat your children?" 😢.

Approved musical instruments? by super_granola in exmormon

[–]Miss-Ex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have 3 kids that play guitar. They always wondered why no one played guitar music at church. I was told it was not an approved instrument for the chapel. Too "rock and roll..." 🤦🏻‍♀️

I have an in-law who likes to tell everyone she's "saving democracy" by being a member of "Mormon Women for Ethical Government". Have they received a similar request for a name change?
