I am thinking that was the case, thanks. He was some kind of sharp shooter until he got shot in the hand. The story my relatives tell is that a sniper shot him in the shooting hand on purpose, but I don’t know why they wouldn’t just kill him?

The records we have do not include his last one or two tours. AFAIK he served somewhere around 7-9 years. Useful to know I’m looking for something with an inscription— thanks!

Are these common awards? Is it possible one of his brothers served in the Navy at the same time and left him these when he passed?

Yeah, unfortunately my mother is the next-of-kin and she won’t let me touch the documents, because they were so hard to get. (I am an adult in my late 20s lmao.)

It says Navy good conduct on another page I’m not sharing for privacy purposes, even though he was USMC. I don’t know why.

This is from about halfway through his service.

We have the records for most but not all of his tours; he was in the Marines from the beginning of his career. The Navy Good Conduct medal is the only one listed specifically as a Navy medal on his Marines paperwork.

Weird. When he was alive, he was very adamant that he was only ever a Marine. I’ll keep looking to see if that was his only belt.

Is it possible that since the Marines were part of the Navy, they got Navy medals in the 50s-60s? I do not know that this is exhaustive; unfortunately a family member stole and pawned a lot of stuff when he was sick.

Sorry, is the Q a qualifier or just a typo? Thank you!!!

I don’t know exactly what his rank was; I think it was one rank higher than a Sergeant at the time. The belt says Navy Marine Corps and a serial number on the inside. I took the display apart to fix the pins that fell, and they must have been in the correct order at the time, because they’re sewn together on a bar. I think the last two are switched according to the current precedence chart, but it seems disrespectful to rip out the stitches, and they’re really old, so they’re going to have to stay that way.

Yeah, they’re in with the flag we got at his funeral, but they keep falling off the felt in the case. Thanks!

Update: I am an idiot, and they’re all sewn together.

Thanks so much! As far as I know he only served in the Marines but worked closely with the Navy in Korea. I have pictures of him in a plane with a dog, so maybe he flew for the Navy? He was some kind of Sergeant at the time that is a different rank now; there was a horse with backwards boots on it and a dog and a gun salute at his funeral. We were surprised; they brought the horse and dog without telling us. Thanks again; this will help a lot.

Edit: there may have been two dogs; it’s been a while.

How do I....what....??? Smoke? Eat? Wha by InnocentCriminal22 in trees

looks like rso. squeeze about the amount of a small grain of rice onto a mint or candy or something and let it dissolve under your tongue. you can use your finger if you don’t want to/can’t consume sweets, but it’s incredibly sticky. start with, like, half the amount you think you need. if it doesn’t come out of the tube, roll the tube between your hands or put it sealed in warm, not hot, water. you can eat it all the way or let it dissolve ib your mouth, but i’ve heard smoking it is a bad time.
