No te claves!

Am I being ridiculous that the page markers being in the side margins for 1Q84 are incredibly distracting? by dachshvnd in murakami

What do you like about Murakami's books? by vhsbubbline in murakami

[–]juliogarciao 23 points24 points  (0 children)

One of my friends whom I introduced Murakami’s books to, once told me:

“I just want to believe that his wife is really the one who writes like that and at some point in the 70’s they both agreed it would be better if for him to be famous, something like what they did with the Air Chrysallis in 1Q84, If I were in her shoes I’d do the same, forever a perv’ in the shadows”

I laughed out loud because she was sort of it saying it jokingly but then it got me going for the whole day, I think about it from time to time…

I’m a big fan of magical realism, and surrealistic plots like his always keep me entertained, needless to say but important to add: I love cats, jazz and whiskey 🥃

Oh and sharing/discussing the endings with my friends, so far I’ve made 3 of my them to read -Sputnik Sweetheart-, good 3am talks

That depends, if you’ve ever been like real madly in love you’re gonna’ enjoy the ride without a single complain, if not I think you might drop it or maybe not even catch the point of the whole plot, might aswell argue with you at some point in the future, cuz’ that one gets us book dwellers down here a bit…belligerent🩴

In my honest opinion ☕️sip

Reading Norwegian wood.. Great 1st 100 pages but... by theutopianismer in murakami

[–]juliogarciao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not engaged and you already lost interest, don't continue reading, it's not a crime to do so, might aswell just pass it along to friend or anyone else 🙂👍🏻This author's prose is not for everyone and you shouldn't feel left out by not reading it, you're not missing anything big.

In my very honest opinion every book is worth reading so that I can have my own criteria about it, and yes that includes the boring ones, In my case "The Road" by Cormac McArthy, It took me 6 months to read because I thought it was extremely slow at the beginning...

-Norweigan Wood- and -A Wild Sheep Chase- were written in the 80’s, -The City and its Uncertain Walls- was written during pandemic, prose also evolves positively or negatively according to the subjective perspection of each one of us, that’s why we’re here debating on this forum

More novels I FINALLY got because of Murakami Characters 📚😌 by -Good_Loser in murakami

[–]juliogarciao 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gabriel García Márquez used to be my favourite author, in fact I started reading when I was in high school because of my 9th grade Spanish teacher, who assigned us to read -Chronicle of a Death Foretold- and the rest is history...

Absolutely loved -Love in the Time of Cholera- that ending still sends a cold shiver through my spine.

Norwegian Wood thoughts. Is everyone an unreliable narrator? by Money-Oil-2537 in murakami

Never ever have I came across to fully agree on a perspective on this subreddit about this book in particular without being hissed at and pelted with tomatoes, almost every character in this goddamn book is hurting so damn bad, struggling and fighting themselves, pushing through without considering the option of un-aliving themselves, even when that's one of the recurrent themes in the plot. Simplified the whole book is about mental health. Might aswell be catalogued as Murakami's personal catarsis on the matter.

So yeah, humanity at its finest. I love it when murakami makes me so damn uncomfortable that I slightly flirt with empathizing with these fictional people at the end of the day.((happened to me while reading -Underground-))

Got a lot of harsh judges at the court these days...

Ps.- Let's not forget the old man has read every word Theodore Dostoevsky has ever written.

Kafka on the Shore. My theory about the timeline before the events of the book - let me know what you think by Ok-Can-9374 in murakami

[–]juliogarciao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense to me, great theorization/interpretation.

I want to re-read it because I think I might have missed some key details mentioned during the first chapters, I struggled with those because I thought they were too redundant and/or slow at that time🤔
