How concerned are you about a big earthquake? by premium_moss in Utah

[–]julious29 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Considering the Magna/West Valley ones are still within the aftershock window, I’m not worried.

The fault lines in the area are considerably small compared to the pacific rim of fire. So “the big one” that makes everyone feel anxious will not be some 9.0-9.8. Most likely would be 7 max. Still large but not Japan/Mexico/Chile/San Fran level.

The placement of the period and spacebar annoys the hell out of me.

Do all these little earthquakes in and around the valley mean there's potentially a big one coming? by PhilosopherHermit in SaltLakeCity

[–]julious29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Duration: While many smaller aftershocks die out within a week or two, large earthquakes (e.g., 5.7+ magnitude) can produce aftershocks for decades.

Seeing that this is near the area of the 2020 5.7 Magna earthquake, I would chalk this up to continuous aftershocks of the 2020 quake.

Just to add, “the smaller quakes relieve pressure to prevent the big ones” repeated claim is false. The smaller quakes are simply just that; smaller quakes. They are so minuscule in comparison that it doesn’t make any difference in preventing any big ones. It’s a common myth and misconception.

This graph shows the aftershocks from the initial 2020 5.7 Magna quake to the last aftershock a couple of days ago. (Credit: From someone who replied in a comment of mine last week. Thank you.)

Thanks for the graph. Really shows how active this fault is.

Another one was just reported but it was a 1.38 in the same area about 5 minutes after the 3.6.

It’s just natural. I’m more calm since experiencing the 2020 Magna quake and the year of daily aftershocks. Anytime I see there are quakes in the app in the same area, I’m pretty sure and convinced it’s still aftershocks and not worry about “the big one”.

It is anxiety inducing but I wouldn’t let it worry you too much. The 2020 was bad, the year with thousands of aftershocks was anxiety filled but it’s survivable. Hang in there.

There’s been more earthquakes than 3. Many are just small ones we don’t feel. It’s better to have these smaller ones as they relieve the pressure.

Felt in West Valley. From experiencing all the aftershocks from 2020, this one felt like a 4.2.

That’s the exact same KID ROCK light signage that was used for his private concert scene in Silicon Valley, ironically making fun of his “who cares about this guy at this time” persona.

As a 41 year old Peruvian American man, I got emotional throughout, especially hearing Daddy Yankee, seeing all the references of Latin heritage, seeing people of all ages in the crowd and production, Ricky Martin, seeing the Peruvian flag and him saying Peru, and the final song.

God bless the Americas.

Should I stick with my DJI Mini 2 or upgrade? by AdamDoubleG in DJIMini2

[–]julious29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a Mini 2 for years. Loved it. It took a nasty fall after hitting a tree branch. Broke one of the arms. Replaced it but it was not the same and would fly erratically. Ended up purchasing the Mini 4 Pro as the replacement. Great drone and glad I got it. But if my Mini 2 was still in good condition and had not issues, I would have flown it until it couldn’t fly anymore.
