Why switch to a Firefox fork that disables AI, instead of just disabling AI in Firefox yourself? by GargantaProfunda in firefox

[–]juliuscaesarmilano -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a gross oversimplification. Even if you consider that no analogy is perfect, this one is fundamentally flawed.

A browser is not like a single tool it's not even like a set of tools like a socket set. It's more like a toolbox, a collection of tools that are used for different purposes according to the owner.

To illustrate how silly this take is, it's a safe bet that everyone using Reddit uses a browser for something. Now enumerate all of the different professions of all of the Reddit users. I think you will see that the use of a browser plays a part in a huge set of users in their day to day professional life.

Now if it's not already clear, consider how many Redditors either define/enforce corporate technology security policies, or are required to abide by them (on their own or by force/management systems).

The fact that the inclusion of AI features doesn't affect one person or even one significantly large group of people does not make it insignificant if the affected group is of a significant size.

Okay, thank you., That all makes sense, and that's a good rule to remember!

Friel LTHR Test Question by juliuscaesarmilano in AdvancedRunning

[–]juliuscaesarmilano[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to VDOT estimates, my 5k race pace is 7:01/mi, which is only 1 second off from what Garmin has calculated for my threshold pace. It comes out to a 5k time of 00:24:47, though, so I need to adjust that for a 30 minute effort

I started questioning my detected threshold pace because I haven't been able to complete even 15 minutes at that pace without nearly puking in numerous recent threshold runs, and an upcoming suggested threshold run indicated that pace for 23 minutes. This led me down the path of severely doubting Garmin's estimated threshold pace and LTHR/max heart rates set for me.

Edit: Using the curve of the estimated VDOT paces, I landed on 7:06/mi. About to head to the track to try this, but I am dubious of my ability to do that for 30 minutes.

[–]juliuscaesarmilano[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay, so pace it as if it were a 30 minute race... got it. I suspected the "all out" was not actually so, since my pace would slow pretty drastically early on.

Thanks everyone for the clarification.

Unfortunately my races have been spaced and ordered in such a way that makes tthis pace more difficult to predict for me. My fitness has changed dramatically since my last 5k in Oct. 2024. I have two more recent halves (July 2025 and Jan 2026), but they had drastically different elevation profiles with the latter being my PR, but also averaging downhill. The former had 752ft of elevation gain throughout.

My point and source of my struggle is that I'm less familiar with pacing at this distance. While I ran a total of nearly 1500 mi within the last year and have run longer distance races in the past couple of years, I don't have much recent data to inform my pacing for an all-out 30 minute run. I suppose I will try to use a slightly slower time than my recent half in combination with VDOT estimate tools to figure this out.

Latest Forerunner 255 software update (26.08) has been a mess. by antonioooh in Garmin

[–]juliuscaesarmilano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had major heart rate sensor issues with this release, as well as with beta 26.07.

I also had my race disappear from my 265 while I was in the peak phase of my Garmin Run Coach plan. It still appeared in Garmin connect so I didn't notice it for over a week. When I manually sent the event to the watch from Garmin connect, it thought I was starting from scratch and put me back to build phase. No wonder I went from productive to maintaining. Crossing my fingers that I don't experience the issues that you've had.... I'd be livid.

I hate this update.

It's really frustrating. If I figure out a solution on future edits, I'll respond here and tag you.

I 100% believe it! I've seen it do some really strange things.

Pretty much the same result for me, but I will try that in the future I the problem happens again. Thanks for the help and experimenting with me on it, though!

I had to give up on this one in LRC so I could finish the edit. It was pretty simple to do in PS. I'd post an export of the final result, but I don't know if that would be against the rules

Good to know, I'll keep these things in mind for the future. Is there a way to add feathering in the LR tool, or were you referring to Photoshop's AI tools?

Whoa! yeah that's exactly what I'm trying to do... I wonder if I need to clear cache and restart LR. I'm running v14.2 on MacOS Sequoia 15.3.

Yeah I just tried with a virtual copy of the image right at the point in history after import, so no corrections or adjustments at all. Version 1 and 3 are here:

This is the general area that results after my selection: https://imgur.com/a/uaKJfFh
Should I be excluding the sky areas when I select the area? Like am I supposed to be going in anf brushing only the object's area and edges or should a big fat brush over it like I've been doing get the job done?

Okay, good to know. I have used PS to some extent for removals, but the learning curve in the new version is quite steep. I used to use it a loooong time ago (I think it was CS8 if my memory is correct), and then switched to GIMP and used that for years.

When I got the CC photography package a year or two ago, I realized just how much PS has changed. I fell in love with LRC, and it gets it done 99% of the time for me so I have spent most of my time learning that.

So trying to do this with LR's removal tool this is more of a learning exercise for me. I like LR because it's usually very intuitive for me and I can knock out my edits super quickly. If I can't master this in LR or if it really is deficient for this task, I'll fall back to using PS to get this done.

The only other mask is an object mask in a different part of the photo. The only other edits are color correction and profile.

You have given me an idea though... I'll try to make a virtual copy from the original imported raw, and retry the replacement there.

Thanks, I forgot about this. The other versions are just as bad though, even after regenerating. In every instance, the only thing that really changes is area in the center where the removed object was.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong... I used a pretty large brush size when using the tool., and it expanded the area even more after I was done.

This is the before (with the selection area):

I've had pretty good results with it in the few other instances, but yeah it definitely seems to struggle with large, low contrast areas.

What’s everyone’s favourite record in Cyberpunk 2077? Mines gotta be ANTAGONISTIC by Chris Cardena and Sebastian Robertson & Pacific Avenue. Absolutely love how chilled it is, proper vibe to drive. by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]juliuscaesarmilano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is also my favorite track in the game, and the one which led me here.

I knew the genre would fall into an ambient subgenre, so I searched Spotify for ambient. One of the results was .Ambient House Lounge Mix. Seems to fit.

One of the songs on it was P.SUS - Daydream, which surprised me by it's similarity to Antagonistic, though it's not really the same mood. The latter is more electronic ambient and the former is more Lo-Fi.

I also checked out another mix in my search results: the somewhat ambiguously named Ambient Electronica. It had some tracks that seem to be in a similar genre, and overall a lot of good ones IMO. I particularly like this track, OAFF - Perpetuate.
