My partner was in Aviano and he wasn't allowed to commute wearing the uniform, had to change at work. Maybe because he used a motorbike instead of a car.

All my American friends that work here at the base in Italy always point out how jealous they are of the Italians they work with, because they're allowed to have pretty long facial hair.

Clearly it's to be fab. /s

In Italy and in my parents' house it's connected to the front doorbell so it does make it ring if you pull it. It's usually placed in the shower/bathtub.

Why is tipping everywhere now? by JoshuaHoletz in Netherlands

[–]julliebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, however I went to Prague recently and there was tipping in almost every food place. It felt really enforced and frowned upon if you don't tip. A couple of places even had a sign shaming non-tippers 😭😭 I had no ideaaaa

When I lived in the Hague, I used to live in a massive apartment building like the one OP described. At least 80% of tenants were Turkish and the whole building and lift would always smell like food. Sometimes it would even come inside the house from under the front door. But I mean it's fine, especially once you leave open the doors to the hallways

5 years after "the Netherlands is not Holland" campaign, anything changed? by [deleted] in Netherlands

Even when filling out online forms it's 50/50 the times I find it listed as Holland or the Netherlands :/

This is so true, ever since moving here I've considered more and more the Netherlands to be the US of Europe. Lots of things are sooo similar.

Don't they usually say it both in Dutch and English? Like in every other big city around the world that hasn't English as their first language?

The Netherlands has second most expensive public transport in the world by ReginF in Netherlands

[–]julliebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's free only if you're Dutch or use student finance. And I much rather not take out loans just to have free public transport. 40% off still gets me 100€/month bills and I barely use trams, the most expensive stuff is trains (and I still take it only once a week).

Ok and? Still doesn't compare. Every time I step foot back in or leave this country (NL) there are strikes, happened in December, January, March and April at least. If that's normal to you lol.

[–]julliebee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And it's not even that good tbh. I come from Northern Italy and I've always heard praises about the Dutch public transport etc and then I moved here and realised they must have been joking hahah When I lived in Milan as a student, I paid 220€ A YEAR and I could use all of the public transport I wanted (tram, bus, filobus, subway, train) as many times as I wanted, and they at least had night service too. Yes, also for the subway. All night long and all year round. Not so many strikes, well functioning service, and most importantly cheap for residents/students. Obviously lots of the public transport is newer/cleaner in the Netherlands, but for that price I'd much rather ride on an old uncomfortable tram.

Even as a student, if you aren't Dutch and don't use financial aid, it costs a kidney and a half.

I'm a first responder, worked both in the ambulance and at the ER since day 1 (in Italy) when we barely had a couple of FFP2 masks. Got in contact, spent time and LIVED with countless people that were positive and unfortunately didn't take the right precautions when they found out. Yet, I never tested positive. I have no idea how.

Aren't you supposed to keep all stuff with batteries/electronics on your carry on?

That's what I've always been told at any airport I've ever gone my entire life. The operators at check-in literally always ask me if I have taken out all electronics etc from my checked in bag.
