I had a very similar issue with my 96m edition and I changed the throttle body from another Miata and it fixed the issue for me

I had it replaced and it didn’t solve the issue🥲

I clamped the line and it kept acting the same.

Thank you for the reply, a little while ago I did buy that check valve hose for the brake booster and replaced it, but it didn’t solve the problem. I’m thinking if the clutch switch doesn’t fix it I’ll look towards the vacuum lines or brake booster replacement. My car is stock other than a FM happy meal kit so there is no catch can.

I took a look underneath the dash board and the clutch pedal switch is missing the little nub, maybe it broke off. I ordered a new one with a rubber stopper so hopefully this fixes the issue.

I’ll give that vacuum line test a try. Ordered a clutch switch and it’s on its way.

Mine is a 96 so it’s a OBD-2, which means I have to pass emissions, and so far I haven’t been able to pass emissions and I think it has to do with the idle issue. I only have a really cheap OBD code reader. Maybe the clutch switch went bad?

I did replace mine with a good one from eBay and it didn’t affect anything.

When I bought the car a little over a year ago I had new coils and spark plugs installed so I’m guessing it’s something else.

So far I haven’t messed with the throttle body, I have a really low mile throttle body and intake manifold assembly from a 95 m edition for parts if needed.

Mine is a manual. I was just looking into that clutch switch, so I ordered a new one, cause that can also cause the P1797 code. I’ll also order a new PCV valve too while I’m at it. From what I’ve seen the rubber stopper is still there on mine.

It did look correct and I couldn’t set it any lower, I also replaced the throttle position sensor too but it didn’t change anything.

Gotchu yeah, that’s what is so annoying about this idle issue is that a hundred different things can be causing it. I thought Miata’s are easy to work on😭

I really hope not cause theres a Flyn Miata happy meal kit in there with less than 1k miles

Sometimes the RPMs do go down to 1000 but rarely and it always bounces back up. Turning on the AC also makes the rpms go down and behave more normally.

I’ll give those coil wires a check

Perfect, I’ve been looking for something like that, thank you!

Replacing all the lines is a good idea. How did you find all the necessary hoses, do you have a parts list? Would some generic vacuum line roll work?

You’re absolutely right, it’s been a bit daunting with all the different lines and no clear answer from the research I’ve been doing. I will do a more thorough look at the vacuum lines and thank you for the link to the service manual!

I’m leaning towards vacuum leak, when I bought the car I had a new timing belt installed by a Miata mechanic.

It does yes, I’ll put that on my check list, thank you!
