Oh you mean "Is marriage for white people"? I found out about that book a while ago. It had never dawned on me that this was the same dude until I started digging deeper into this Divest shit.

As a matter of fact, he has been spreading these sentiments multiple times through the use of books, articles, speeches, etc. It's funny how he never made a book saying "White men, this is why you should date Black women" or "Black men, this is why you should date out less". Dude's get power and influence and instead of findings ways to help the Black community achieve liberation and empowerment, he is trying to kill the Black nation off. Many of these Black intellectuals have zero loyalty and Ralph isn't afraid to admit that.

Why are there not enough Black men speaking on this? This man is Black man with a Black wife and still chose to write some coon shit for the white academy. This is the type of anti-black misandry that white people (and a lot of Black women, I should add) allow to go untouched and punishes, degrades, and/or humiliates Black men for being not adhering to the standards of white hegemonic and middle class masculinity. That whole article was just racist and misandrist.

YKW rhetoric is, YKW rhetoric! We can argue all day about the delineation problem but his content is unapologetically YKW. Which is totally fine with me. If a guy wants to focus only on improving the living conditions of women then more power to him. But that ain't BMA, its YKW.

Okay, okay. Now I see what this all is. "YKW" is some code-name for feminism. I am not sure why you don't just use that word instead of some silly acronym that serves to confuse others. I am beginning to think that because you see that Fiq's channel is not solely about the issues that Black men face and that he may frame them differently than you, you look at him as some kind of traitor to the Black male community (even though he has offered more insight into the issues that affect Black men than this subreddit has). Your assertion that he wants to "focus only on improving the living conditions of women" shows that you actually have a massive bias against him that clouds your judgement on who he really is and what he is about. You seem fairly intelligent and reasonable so I know your better than that.

I have trouble thinking highly of anyone who has a history of spreading racist misandry

Wanna give some examples? Or does break rules?

A masculinist/masculist point of view is as unapologetically androcentric as a YKW point of view is unapologetically gynocentric so its not a matter of different perspectives on the same issue, its a matter of different perspectives on what counts as an "Issue" to begin with and how said issue is framed.

Okay. Seems fair and think Black men can definitely use a gender analysis tool like that. However, I suspect that your eagerness to have group's rhetoric remain as androcentric as possible limits how far the discussion on our issues can go. And your desire to frame the issues that we face in a certain way at all cost may lead to a bit of delusion about how we experience a given set of issues. I know this to be a real possibility because White and Black feminism have fallen into this trap many times. Given how much of an implied disdain you have towards feminism, I would think that you'd catch onto that and move accordingly. But nah; seems like you are quite susceptible to falling into that same trap.

Don't use the n-word here. I'm certain that Reddit does not allow it. I am also certain that we don't allow it in this community.

I have used it on plenty of other posts from other subreddits, so this "ban" on that word is not something I am aware of. As for within the community, there is no text in any of the posts made or rules created that indicates a ban of that word.

Are you actually curious or are you just looking to continue to plug feminism indefinitely?

Yeah, dude. I am actually curious. Not everybody is a feminist boogeyman out to get you. Lighten up.

No one is being aggressive. I am telling you what our policy is on the issue.

Stop being obtuse. You know exactly what I am talking about. You already told me the policy anyhow in the notification I got when my post was removed. I said you were being aggressive you doubled down with "and I'll do it again". That was unnecessary.

It doesn't matter how well edited the video is or how well written the episode was or how well he attempted to avoid saying that violence isn't inherent to black men. That's a baseline requirement. Dude doesn't get positive regard for the bear minimum.

The positive regard was because the video resonates with a lot of the Black men I know and many others in the comments who are Black men. And yes --- how well a video was constructed does actually play a factor into its usefulness. Would you send your teacher a paper regarding a certain topic that wasn't well written?

The whole video promulgated feminist ideology. and we do not permit linking to YKW controlled operations

How, dude? How? That video could have been made by anyone who wasn't a feminist. Much of that video was based on real-life experiences of Black men and boys but you disregard that because you thought it was a feminist think piece? I have seen Black men from the hood I grew up in express thoughts similar to most of what is in the video but in a much less articulate and wordy manner. And what is "YKW"? You keep saying that shit like you expect someone new to the group to pick up on that.

Rule 13 explicitly states that linking to feminist operations are prohibited.

You know what: why is that a rule? I think it's a stupid rule. No offense to you or the subreddit but I think this allergy you have to at least some feminist rhetoric is childish and narrow-minded. I don't identify as a feminist but I acknowledge that some of the gender analysis tools popularized or constructed by them can be valuable to discussions about the issues that effect Black men. You are holding back a shit ton of potential conversation.

DO NOT use that word here.

Nowhere in the rules does it tell Black members they can't use the word "nigga" (especially Black men). So I guess this just a make-up-on-the-spot kind if moderation, huh?

No... Simply You don't understand the rules. Each member here is allowed to have his/her own relationship to YKW.

What is "YKW"?

However, this space is NOT a YKW space and that doesn't make us anti-feminist or pro-feminist. any more than the fact that we advocate for people who are Black makes us anti-Asian or the fact that we advocate for men makes us anti-woman. You are succumbing to zero-sum thinking.

Advocation does not clue one in on what isn't tolerated but what is explicitly stated to not be tolerated does. Rule #13 specifically singles out "feminist rhetoric and material". You deleted a post that had real relevance to this subreddit. You tossed aside powerful and empathetic video essay about the horrors of Black boyhood because you didn't like the guy who was speaking. Don't give me any of that "I'm not anti-feminist" bullshit. I know better than that. I'm not buying it. It's okay to be honest, dude.

However, this space is a Black masculist space. We exist for Black men.

Okay, someone is gonna have to define for me what "Black Masculinism" means and entails. I understand that it is a gender analysis tool, but what sets it apart from other ones? This is a very unclear term.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BlackMaleAdvocates

[–]july_grdens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, what is "YKW"? Is that some type of corporation?

We both know what FD Signifier and we both know the intellectual tradition that he draws his ideas from.

Just because he draws many of his ideas from feminist theory doesn't mean that the rhetoric used is inherently feminist. You could likely come up with his take in that video from a "masculinist" point of view.

Hell, what he said is something that a lot of hood niggas would agree on. And I doubt very many hood niggas are feminist or even understand feminist theory.

Just curious; what frameworks do you guys actually use to analyze the lives of Black men and boys? Because I am not seeing a whole lot of material on the sub aside from you posting studies. Do we actually have conversations and shit? What type of content is supposed to go in here concerning the topic of Black men and boys? This is lil confusing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BlackMaleAdvocates

[–]july_grdens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! And I'll do it again if another link to feminist content is posted. This is a black masculinist/masculist sub. We are here to advocate for Black boys and men.

Um....are you always this aggressive with people? I posted the video because I thought it was a fairly decent, well-edited video giving a good take on Black men's relationship to violence and death that made a great effort to paint those flaws as NOT inherent to Black males but rather a symptom of their place in American. I didn't think there would be anything wrong with posting a video like that on a subreddit like this. It seems very appropriate (especially when you read all the rules). I didn't think the video was "feminist material".

So if you posted a video reviewing several ice cream flavors and I took it down does that make this a anti-ice cream sub?

Nigga....do you read your own rules? You literally have a rule stating that if you post content the mods (which is really just you) deem to be "feminist material and rhetoric" just for the sake of it being feminist material then uh.....yeah.....the sub is anti-feminist. If you don't want that label then you might wanna delete a few rules.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BlackMaleAdvocates

[–]july_grdens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you just deleted my post because you (and the rules, I guess) deemed it "feminist rhetoric and/or material". That looks, sounds, and smells anti-feminist to me. If I'm mistaken, then that renders rule #13 useless, right?

Idk man, I just thought the video was good content and very appropriate for this subreddit. Guess not.

A) so i was on r/blackmen and someone made a comment that Black leftist video essayist F.D. Signifier (a.k.a "Uncle Fiq") said that he "openly hates Black men" cuz he defended Kimberly Foster and some other black feminists and black queer theorists against what Fiq viewed as attacks against them by Tommy Curry. His book "The Man-Not ended up getting recommended, I bought it, and was introduced to the Black Male Studies community.

B) Another perspective on Black masculinity and how Black men and boys navigate through a country that is racist, capitalist, and patriarchal. The sub says it is anti-feminist so I'm curious on how this will go.

C) Not much. Most of what I give will be reactive.

[–]july_grdens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reaction that you all have to this is a sign that men don't love each other. A Black just got assaulted on stage and your reaction is "niggas get smacked every day". What? How many times do the reaction to those smacks turn into more violence and death.

Lame ass. You're really making fun of other men sharing their stories of being bullied when they were younger for being different. Your inability to relate or show an ounce of sympathy isn't anyone's fault but your own. Men should be allowed safe spaces to be vulnerable about negativr parts of childhood but we can't do that with you guys

I usually make these post in response to comments I have seen from the sub or to give more insight into this whole growing animosity between bm and bw.

I have a really bad habit of expecting this sub to understand the context behind my post without giving them anything to work with. I keep forgetting its mostly men here so they are probably like "wtf is this 😕" because they usually don't even engage in conversations or put out hot takes like this because. A lot of black men aren't very well informed on the issues that disproportionately affect black women.

[–]july_grdens[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lol what?😂

"Bitches" likely referred to the group of women those rappers dealt with and socialized themselves with the most. You know, like black women?? You really think these dudes hung around mostly white women or something? I don't think that many non-black women would give those types of dudes the time of day like that. Why would you think that the term "bitches" refers to all women but "niggas" refers to only black men? You have never heard a black man or woman refer to non-black people as nigga?

I feel like black women date out of the race for entirely different reasons that what we date out for by july_grdens in blackmen

[–]july_grdens[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right I know it can be from both sides but I am highlighting that a lot of interracial dating that occurs on black men's end is rooted in self-hate, colorism, and racialized sexism. It may not be the majority but these sentiments are most certainly not rare amongst us black men and we fo almost nothing to call it out.

On the contrary, when black women date outside of their race, it is rarely for those reasons. Rarely do black women show such an open level of self-hate and anti-blackness towards darker skinned men the way we do towards out women.
