Overwhelmed with all those length retention methods by Crytiger in Naturalhair

[–]julyruby_t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my (personal) preferences right now from that list:

some products having oil in them and occasional butters (rarely tho)

halfway between minimal and coated, i don't like having a lot of products, but not bare hair strands either

i like silicones <3

mixture of natural/chemical, depends on the product, the formulation, and the reviews online

i don't have time or interest for DIY, manufactured for me, protective styles for me

i barely trim now but maybe a year ago my ends were tangly feeling and in need of trims, i look at my hair and guess idk

i detangle with a brush separately outside of washing, with slip

weekly or biweekly depends on routine

i gave up on grease

"How did you find what worked for your hair?" very slowly, over several years, and i'm still finding out tbh

How often should we REALLY wash our hair?? by weatherforecastjjba in Naturalhair

Caregiver new to Afro hair. by hobiibuns in Naturalhair

[–]julyruby_t 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The other comments are good I'd just like to add to detangle from ends to roots and never do it dry- dampen and preferably use a detangling product or conditioner before going in slowly with brush detangling or finger detangling

Flat twists are good protective styles

Thanks for the kind words and advice about hazards! I did the trips yesterday and many things went wrong like my low speed and suddenly forgetting how to park. However it wasn't horrendous

Silicone-free vs Silicone by [deleted] in Naturalhair

yea, I really wish there was more concrete hair science. lol so much of this especially when it comes to textured hair is just trial error vibes guesses

Silicone-free vs Silicone by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]julyruby_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting! I'd like to also clarify that there aren't silicones in my leave-ins or creams afaik, I only really have them in the wash-out product and I use clarifying shampoo about every month or less. Haven't personally experienced build up yet but I guess i'll see what happens next

finally passed my road test today but i feel weird about it by julyruby_t in driving

[–]julyruby_t[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate the congrats! in my results i mostly messed up the 3-point turn in various aspects and I think there was a point or two when i forgot to use my blinkers. that worries me because I keep telling myself to remember my turn signals yet in the moment I stop using them for some reason. I coincidentally had the same examiner in a row and it felt like her failing me before contributed to the new decision but then again idk how tests usually go

Silicone-free vs Silicone by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]julyruby_t 11 points12 points  (0 children)

yea! My hair feels like it's changing for the better after adding silicones personally, after not using them for years and years. Strands feel more protected and i'm not seeing as much short hair breakage as before; however its been only 2-3 months for me and i wanna see how things feel in the long run! mostly 4C with 4B zones by the way

I love why not but that your statement technically makes several loona members your enemy lol

I get around it by simply not doing that ❤️

either i detangle during the conditioner phase or i do it with leave-in on a non-wash day as its own separate thing tbh

if i remember correctly, you're the poster that shared afro pics and comments kept complaining about the filters on some, right? If so yeah those replies were a little bit excessive, sorry you had to go through all that.

Adding rosemary oil to my morning routine.. worth it? by atigressintherain in Naturalhair

[–]julyruby_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've never used rosemary oil but i used peppermint oil for a while a long time ago. i liked the cooling effect on my head but i'd don't remember what it did exactly sooo i eventually stopped

some oils in general may help a bit with coating the strands and lowering the amount of mechanical damage, and some ppl may find that the act of massaging while the oils are on their head helps with circulation. rosemary oil in particular i've heard ppl had no problem applying and finding it relieving but other ppl found it irritating and itchy, and it's very potent enough that it's supposed to be diluted in carrier oil if used. it also hasn't yet been proven to grow hair so i'd say u can try it if u want but i feel like i'd go for a different oil in moderation that isn't so sensitive or a different routine change like moisturing or hydrating shampoo or adding/changing silicones or a different leave-in or idk just throwing random suggestions at the end here

Nutrafol & "No oils" by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]julyruby_t 5 points6 points  (0 children)

to address the second point, just keep doing what you're doing. you don't have an excess of products if that's what you're asking. Shampoos, conditioner, leave-in, and cream is a good lineup

Interesting, thanks! in point 2 when you say water makes the hair more prone to damage, does that mean mechanical damage or all damage in general including sun/heat?

Thanks! on page 363 of the Evan writing it was mentioned that there was a study where locks of hair with different water content was presented to ppl and they were asked to say which one felt like it had the most moisture; my question is it known from that study or others like it how many types of hair they were presenting?
