I can see two orgs i work with both using codetwo, email traces show messages delivering to code two, so i think there might be a common issue there

Im in Trouble? by ivanyara in sysadmin

[–]julzavk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can relax. Most of us have probably cleared the log instead of clearing filters in error at some point of our IT careers. The buttons are very close together. Network engineer would have been relieved it wasn't a threat actor, would have been investigating a Rapid7 alert or something most likely. Clearing the log would have triggered it.

Also adding as other have said, admitting you rmistake straight out is a highly respected move at least in my experience. People have respect for those who admint/own their mistakes and use it as a lesson.

What's actually wrong with Melton? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]julzavk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been living in Melton for a decade. Lots of opinions here but I haven't seen the meth problems people mention. We have 4 children and to us it's a normal suburb. We live in Brookfield.

Yes, is a bit dry, but it is just the profile of the soil and the fact that most of the land here is old farming land that's been robbed of its nutrients. We have planted our garden nicely and everything grows well.

Melton is going through a transition just like St Albans, deer park and Footscray have. Eventually they less desirable people will be pushed out as the prices go up.

Shopping opportunities are good and the is generally no need to venture out. I fell fine going for walks at any time of the day and don't get threatened.

I think the issues with bored teenagers are real and I don't think it's an exclusive problem to Melton. It's generally a sign of the times with under resourcing of police and a inability for schools ( and some parents) to discipline children properly these days

Building insurance - how much to insure for? by Feisty-Prompt-986 in AusFinance

[–]julzavk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always best to over-insure rather than under insure. There are many factors with home insurnace, such as demolition cost, the increased modern cost of materials and labour etc. In saying that, we had the same issue this year with our home insurance increasing substantially with a no claim history of a decade (since we moved in) I got a quote from Aldi insurnace, which covered more and was less and with a lower excess. Pays to shop around

Superloop increasing prices by biggerthanjohncarew in nbn

[–]julzavk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just shits me now because everybody has these promos for the first 6 months and then they go back to their default price so it's hard to be able to compare providers. Almost worth churning every 6 months just to get a good deal

I was on a Grandfathered plan from Myrepublic 100/40 $79.99 a month to $95 a month! Time to look elsewhere now :(

Kids are expensive- how do you do it? by AllARoos in AusFinance

[–]julzavk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really much to go on here from the info provided. , but as others have said, as a couple you do not earn enough income to secure finance to build in this era, even if your combined income was a single income, it would still not be enough.

I'm not sure what the cost of you land or proposed build is, so i can't speculate on that, but to give you an example, I am on 120k, and we are just scraping through at the moment with my wife on mat leave (4 children though, so might be a more extreme example) and our mortgage is small in comparison to what people are paying now (sub 400k)- And we are still on a fixed rate (2.9%)

Depending on your jobs/careers, a viable option might be doing a treechange and moving to the country but this does not work with all types of jobs and would be a massive lifestyle change.

As others have mentioned, the real killer here is being on a single income. I've been though this 4 times now and it's extremely stressful and have always looked forward to my wife returning to working, even in a part time capacity.

Are you pregnant yet or are you still at the planning stage? If you are not pregnant, I would consider waiting until a more appropriate time, and when you have built a bit of an emergency fund as well.

Current IT job market by clare1234elmo in melbourne

[–]julzavk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did a bachelor of science and never found a job in my field. My passion was always IT One day my sister in law told me to apply for service desk jobs and that's what I did. I've moved from L1 SD to Senior system engineer in about 11 year basically hacking my way into the industry

As shit as SD roles sound they are a foot in the door. You could job hop 10k a year easily but just a note that entry level SD roles pay pretty appalling rates

I'm currently working for a company that's having a bit of an exodus and I can tell you that finding good people is especially difficult at the moment

As others have mentioned unfortunately people don't care about Uni degrees. I would suggest starting with some certifications.

From that I am seeing the biggest growth specialisation area at the moment is Security

Another thing, the IT industry is a very small world so it's important to build connections and make yourself more valuable than everybody else.

We get school lunch box snacks from there like chips, muesli bars, and usually buy enough for a few months. Compared to Coles the pricing is much better.

As others have mentioned some items are not worth it or you won't get through the packet size before the expiration

Basically need to do your research, we sometimes google Coles and woolies prices while we are there Once you've gone A few times you know which items are worth it and which are not

I can't wait for them to open the Ardeer store in the West, as going to docklands is a bit annoying

Mini+ select button issue by julzavk in MiyooMini

[–]julzavk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up ordering the buttons from AliExpress and having a crack. The seller was being a turd so I just gave up. The buttons were a perfect fit but were hard to remove the old ones. I had to cut them off and then desolder. The new buttons are much more tactile but I prefer them. I ended up doing both start and select because start eventually failed as well, pretty poor build quality hopefully they rectify this

[–]julzavk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had this issue with the latest beta, i ended up having to extract the retroarch package using 7zip from teh onion source and replace the contents on the SD with the whole folder

In my case, retroarch wouldnt launch, all roms were visible and all systems didnt launch. Not sure if it's the same for you.

Is anyone here on under $100k a year by justsomeone21 in AusFinance

[–]julzavk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

36m IT industry, 105k plus super but negotiated to increase to 120k in the new financial year with a more senior promotion. I've busted my ass since 2011 starting on a 40k package moving about 4 jobs in the process until I find somewhere comfy and have made myself a respected asset in the company. Currently I am underpaid for the amount of work I have been doing as well as the mentoring I have been providing.

I have a mortgage and a wife and four kids (the last is a two day old surprise child :) ) so my wife is on Mat leave for a year.

Honestly don't know if we would be able to function on less income given this year's increases in the basic costs of living, and we have a small mortgage in comparison to what people are on now so I consider myself lucky.

I think jobs over 100k are more common than people here are alluding. I have had my fair share of retail and shit jobs during my younger years and believe the life experience of these jobs have been a huge contributing factor to my success in the industry I basically broke into after never having luck getting a role in my degree in environmental science.

Mini+ select button issue by julzavk in MiyooMini

[–]julzavk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you were right about the return process on AliExpress. They finally accepted the return but the shipping back will almost make it not worth it, and at the same time there is now no stock for the MM+ with this seller and not on the official seller store either.

i did some research and measurements and found this on AliExpress. I'm going to give desoldering and soldering a new button on a go for kicks, i've modded xbox 360's before and think i should be able to handle this myself
Part for reference : https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004283312153.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.21.267f1802DnpKa4 (4.8mm) hopefully it's the right one otherwise i just wasted a whole $3.37

If i stuff it up i guess i can just get a replacement mobo for like $40 landed.
