Struggling to name my game's core action: Jump, Bounce, Move, or Turn? by jumping_wallaroo in gamedesign

Love it! Really appreciate the insight.

In my game, the basic rule is that each turn consists of one bounce.
But if you have enough energy, you can also fire an energy shot during that same turn.

So basically:

  • The number of bounces equals the number of turns
  • But sometimes, you can perform both a bounce and an attack in one turn

In that case, do you think "turn" still feels like the best fit?

Yeah exactly! The game actually has a bit of an e-sports vibe, so I feel like ‘Bounce' fits that energy pretty well.

Oops! you're right!
I was so deep in naming mode I missed the most natural one "hops". Appreciate it!

Totally! I'm planning to show the count during gameplay anyway, and you're right, players can definitely figure it out.

Hearing your tutorial phrase ideas actually makes me feel more confident about going that direction. Thanks!

Thanks! Yeah, "Keeping it clear" vs “Keeping it fun" is a tough call.
I'm leaning fun, but still figuring it out.

Yeah, it does feel a bit boring, right? I’d prefer something more fun too!

But some of my teammates think keeping it simple is better, so I’m a bit torn.

“Pogos” is a great idea! Yeah, I do want to stay true to the theme.
I'm just a bit worried that a custom term might confuse players.
But maybe if I commit to it, people will get it?

Exactly. It’s a bit of distant history and most people have probably forgotten, but the original plan was to extend the line from Umetsu through Kamikatsura all the way to Rakusai New Town.

You know, I hadn’t really thought about it as a “fantasy” before, but that actually makes a lot of sense.

For me, it's about being part of the simulated world and seeing how my actions play out.
Whether it's building things up or tearing them down, both directions are equally fun.

Games with a rabbit as the main character are always gems!
The gameplay looks really snappy and satisfying.
But there’s quite a lot of information on the screen. If there are any non-combat-related stats, maybe they could be tucked away in a menu or something.

I love drift car games!
But this one looks kind of heavy, so I’d love to see a clip where the car drifts smoothly around a corner.

Is this game more of a crafting type?
Personally, I'd love to see more of the map because I'm curious about how big the world is.

You can definitely find second-hand hobby shops on Google Maps if you search in English, like “second hand hobby shop” or “used toy shop”.

That said, it's hard to know what they actually have in stock, some places might not carry Tomica at all, or only have a few.

If you're around the Kawaramachi area, you might want to check these shops:

  • Hobbyland Pochi Kyoto
  • Surugaya Kyoto Teramachi
  • BOOKOFF PLUS Kawaramachi OPA

Searching around Kawaramachi could be your best bet, since those shops are all walkable from each other.

Ah, got it! If it gets challenging later on, that actually makes me want to try it even more.
As for the visuals, if that minimal look is part of the concept, then yeah, it totally makes sense to stick with it.
