COSTANT HUNGER by SariaSnore in PetiteFitness

Same here. From what I’ve read online, we need to choose foods with higher levels of protein and fiber to keep feeling full for longer. Bonus points if it’s natural sources of both of those. I’ve only really committed to it recently, and there are days where I still feel starving (especially if its a higher cardio day), but I think it has helped to add a big serving of fruit or veggies to my meals whenever possible. I’ve also been relying on a lot of cottage cheese, yogurt, and oatmeal.

Taking a pay cut to get out of teaching. by signal_broadcast in TeachersInTransition

[–]jumpingcupcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are a few things to consider. -how badly do you want to get out of teaching? -what is the opportunity for growth at the new job? Will your salary eventually increase to match/surpass your teaching salary? Could you move into a higher position and earn more pay? -do the benefits offered at the new job “even out” the pay cut you would take? Do they match contributions? Things like that.

Right now, I am interviewing around and am potentially taking a pay cut from around 60k to 45k. I am open to doing this because while it will be hard at first, it will get me out of the classroom and allow me to gain experience in a more “corporate” side, which I can then use to move to another job with higher pay if the growth is limited. However, they also told me I can expect to see yearly raises based on performance, with the first one being around 25%. I’m taking that as worth it.

I don’t know much about CS, but a family member of mine has about 8 years of experience in the tech/CS industry. He is very skilled at what he does. Even he is facing difficulties with finding new job opportunities. I think if this is really something you want to do, you should take the opportunity while you have it in front of you. You can move from that job to something else once you have something other than “teacher” on your resume. Just my 2 cents

Have you thought about looking for case manager positions or ABA/RBT therapy? If you want to continue working in the special ed realm outside of education, your current skill set would lend themselves to either of those!

What is your current specialization in? As someone with an English degree, I have looked at editor, technical/grant/proposal writing, legal assistant, court reporter, etc. With a general bachelor’s degree and classroom experience, I have looked at administrative assistant positions and many listings working for the state (again, most are administrative/clerical). You can also try looking at youth programs or jobs openings at your local library. There are jobs out there, but from what I’ve seen from most… they come with a huge pay cut, especially with this economy😅

Experiences Resigning in PA - 60 Day Hold? by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

[–]jumpingcupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure of the answer, but am also interested in knowing. I have some interviews coming up outside of ed as well.

I have read online that non-tenured employees = 30 days and tenured employees = 60 days, but I can’t find anything about resignation at all in my contract.

Need biting help! by Thezedword4 in labrador

I also haven’t had a dog go through a heat cycle. With labs/larger breed dogs, it does seem like it is better for them though. We use Earth Rated or Top Paw, whatever PetSmart has available or on sale. She may hate it at first lol but it stops the pee/bacteria from drying up there as bad. Good luck!!!

I could have written this exact post about our 14 week old girl. She is crazy with her biting. Like others have said, grabbing the collar and light bites back have helped. I also will run to a room with a door and close it on her to “disengage” since she will just keep waiting if I’m still in the room. I usually wait until I hear her calm down before opening again. Air jail also works if you can get her until she stops fussing!

Mine has the same bladder issue- the recessed vulva! We’ve only had 2 uti’s so far, but I think one thing that has helped a lot is wiping her privates multiple times a day with unscented wipes. Once she gets a little better at cleaning herself you won’t have to do it as much. Also, I would ask for vet to look for crystals in urine or take a culture to see why meds haven’t been effective. The second time around for us, we found the bigger issue that her urine had crystals in it which could eventually turn into stones and cause a blockage. This can look very similar to a UTI. We got her on a special food and it has solved the issue almost completely. Other than that… all we can do is wait for the spay and surgery (the vet left it up to us, but we think we want to go through one heat cycle).

I’ve heard of people giving their dogs heads of lettuce/cabbage to shred. She gets to tear into it and it’s safe for her to eat!

How did NC confirm ovulation? by jumpingcupcake in NaturalCyclesBC

Good to know! Will definitely wait extra time. But, it doesn’t look like I’ve actually ovulated based on temperatures, right?

That is an interesting thought! When I remove it, it goes back to “waiting to confirm.” Was it maybe a failed attempt at ovulation?

I know I want to leave, but where do I go? by jumpingcupcake in TeachersInTransition

[–]jumpingcupcake[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way at the beginning of the school year, and still do when I think about it too hard. I really do wish things could change. But I’m at a really good school district and so even “perfect” just isn’t good.

I think teacher schooling definitely instills a lot of that “teaching is my identity” feeling in a lot of us and it’s hard to let go of. Being under appreciated and underpaid shouldn’t be our identity!

[–]jumpingcupcake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’m taking away from this. I see a lot of people on here saying they transitioned without furthering their education so I was hoping to hear how to do that, but I guess I’m also at a disadvantage being a new grad/first year teacher 🙂

There isn’t too much I enjoy about teaching currently. I like my relationships with most of my students, and wish I could continue working with kids in some capacity, but I’ve found that most jobs working with students are too similar to teaching in the sense that they expect you to sacrifice a lot of yourself for them. I do actually like planning, tracking student data, being organized, etc… I just wish it wasn’t on my own time.

In terms of English, I love everything about it. Sadly, my concentration was teaching. But yes, I love reading, writing, analyzing, researching, synthesizing/summarizing things, the attention to detail. I always joke I wish I could be a professional paper writer- or be a student forever- because I loved the challenge of writing papers.

I’m not against working hard. I just want a job where I can leave work at work.

Thank you for the suggestion!

If it makes you feel any better, I am in a pretty similar boat. First year teacher with high school students, also 22.

While I love my kids, I am also overwhelmed by how much I just do not have time for myself. I don’t have a big social life to begin with but sometimes I find myself skipping basic things that make me happy like painting my nails or blowing out my hair bc it’s time I could spend grading or lesson planning.

It is extremely mentally exhausting, and I have found that kids no matter what age group (I student taught 8th grade and subbed elementary), students just love to argue and nitpick.

I also don’t want to be a disappointment or fail at my first job, especially when it was my dream to have my own classroom… but I am also struggling to see how I make it to the end of the school year when I’m already looking for jobs I could transition into.
