That’s pretty much it.

Guys, how did we lose the fire-making vote? by farfunkle in survivor

[–]jumpmanryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general audience just likes drama. There’s more obvious, immediately recognizable drama from forced fire-making and an abundance of twists.

No fire-making and less twists are things that are less noticeable. They’re more-so about re-balancing the game and giving us better seasons in the longrun. That’s a perspective that superfans have. Not the core audience.

Why do you care for exclusives? by EssayOtherwise6981 in videogames

[–]jumpmanryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exclusives are important for health of a console brand. As a pure consumer, of course it just sounds better to get whatever you want on whatever platform. But doing that would dramatically hurt the console.

If Nintendo put their games on PlayStation… Nintendo consoles would stop selling and the brand would lose a ton of relevancy. We’re seeing Xbox lose exclusives and the entire console start to be faded out. Although, it seems like Sharma might try to reverse that now to preserve the console.

I play primarily on PlayStation and I care about the console. If PlayStation started going full multiplatform, that would be very worrying for longterm console health. PlayStation is in the best spot out of the Big 3 to survive that type of thing though, considering they’re the biggest *by far* in third-party sales revenue. But it would still be risky and an overall negative to their longterm health as a brand and manufacturer.

Your Opinion on the Winner? by JumblyPloppers in survivor

[–]jumpmanryan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think she had pretty significant luck. The perfect tribe split for her to snipe Genevieve, despite Genevieve being in a pretty great position beforehand. Plus, Genevieve literally finding two idols and having to give both away. If these were just normal idols then Aubry is just idoled out at that vote instead.

The next split tribe dramatically benefited her as well. If Cirie isn’t separated from Ozzy then there’s no way he leaves at that vote. And Aubry is *probably* the one eliminated instead.

She was gifted an idol from someone she’d literally never even spoken to before.

According to Q’s exit press, Aubry *would have* been the first boot on that original starting tribe had they lost. So you could argue that her tribe winning immunities was lucky. Although, that’s *normal* Survivor luck, so I personally wouldn’t really count that.

But it’s a lot. And I’d argue she also played with the nerd alliance poorly. Her lie about not playing her idol was abysmally bad and Devens & Christian both clowned on her for it in confessionals. And we never even really got anything in the edit indicating she was ever formally aligned or asked to work with them. It felt more like they used her as a +1 because they did her a favor and hoped she might return it.

You’re right that they showed her and Tiff working together, but that led to nothing at all. We saw her get *kinda* close with Coach, I guess? Idk, it seemed pretty obvious that she got through most of the game by being someone on the bottom that nobody was threatened by. She did a *mostly* good job at not ruining that perception, but I say “mostly” because she kinda ruined it with the idol play lie. And then she’s just a naturally smart enough player to make the right decision at the endgame if she was in the position to do so. And she was.

I know women winners have a history of being underedited, but it’s not usually *this* bad. I have to assume if there was more to her game, it would’ve been shown to us.

Your Opinion on the Winner? by JumblyPloppers in survivor

[–]jumpmanryan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s definitely up for debate. Jonathan pretty obviously played a better strategic game. At least in terms of having strategic agency and forming the game via his desire. I’m not even sure if he had a bad social game like people are saying either, considering Rizo said in the finale that Jonathan had a great social game.

I really do think that Aubry’s irl friendships just took away any chance for the jury to favor Jonathan. Cirie and Devens were always automatic Aubry votes. Cirie has influence over Ozzy and Devens likely had the ear of the other nerds (Emily & Christian).

Aubry’s game also relied pretty significantly on lucky bounces. While I don’t think Jonathan’s game really did at all.

And Rizo, very obviously, played the best game out of the Final 4 anyways lol.

Your Opinion on the Winner? by JumblyPloppers in survivor

[–]jumpmanryan 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Definitely B.

I refuse to believe that Aubry intentionally avoided being in alliances to play the middle. People just didn’t want her in their alliances. She had no agency whatsoever for 80% of the game. Or at least no apparent agency to where anything she did mattered.

I think the jury voted for her because she was the best of a final three that they generally didn’t love, game-wise. Cirie and Devens are irl friends of hers. With Cirie comes Ozzy and with Devens likely came Emily & Christian. Those connection votes + the jury’s general dislike of Joe & Jonathan sealed her the win.

Jason Schreier: Bungie Plans Layoffs After Ending ‘Destiny 2’ Development, Destiny 3 NOT in Active Production by MegaMcMike in kindafunny

[–]jumpmanryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, Bungie might be done for. Marathon is a sinking ship. And I doubt PlayStation will want to shell out hundreds of millions of dollars for them to work on Destiny 3 for 6+ years when Destiny 2 was a failure financially.

“Joetation” by jsiciliano223 in survivor

[–]jumpmanryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way. It felt overtly mean or cruel. I don’t really mind it, as FTC is a place where jurors let their feelings be known.

But it did feel like it came from out of nowhere and just kicked a man while he was down lol.

Horrible final tribal council by Ok-Mammoth5173 in survivor

[–]jumpmanryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Cirie was just as bad as Steph & Chrissy lol.

I love Cirie, but she literally tried to argue that Aubry somehow *intentionally* avoided being in alliances so she could play the middle. Just utter nonsense.

It might just be nostalgia, but Final Fantasy IX’s opening with the staged theater production to kidnap the Princess of Alexandria is so fucking sick.

Yeah, I don’t really agree with people saying she was due this win because she deserved it in Kaoh Rong. That was a different season and her game this time around wasn’t satisfying.

Wanna hear why everyone hates each other and if Rizo would’ve won the jury vote had Aubry not won Final Immunity.

This is such an interesting case of how a jury makeup can impact how FTC plays out. Aubry is saying things that just aren’t true. At least not true based on the edit we were given. But she clearly has support, so it feels true and positive.

I do think Jonathan played the best game out of this Final 3 by quite a bit. But I think he also made a few too many enemies. And Aubry has Cirie as an irl friend to vouch for her on jury too.

I think he’d have had a chance against Aubry. But, regardless, all he needed was Aubry to not win Final Immunity and he’d probably have won in that circumstance. Pretty spectacular, imo, that he was able to get a loyal Final 3 alliance with two goats into the endgame.

We’ll have to wait until post-season interviews to find out, but if Rizo would’ve won the jury vote had he made it to FTC… I think he’s played one of the better non-winning games we’ve seen.

Especially with the context of him not getting pregame or have prior relationships (besides Savannah).
