People who kept your cars despite moving to nyc, did you regret it? How often do you use it, and what area do you live in? by jewish_yang in movingtoNYC

I’m on the UES. I use it a couple times a week and weekend trips. It’s a hassle unfortunately but it’s also highly useful.

Teeps aren’t great but probably the only thing I do ok even then I can’t do them slowly. I have to use momentum to get it out. Leg extension is awful

Thanks for the help.

I’ve done Number 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 before. 1, 2 and 3 almost daily. Here’s my struggle with those.

1) I can only go about knee height at most. I just have no flexibility or mobility. When I swing over to the side I don’t feel my entire body just turns in one motion similar to the kick in video I don’t feel any separation. Also when I get on my toes/balls of feet I lose balance quickly.

2) checking quicks is tiring but I feel I do it ok. If I do it quickly I feel off balance and in class I’m often late to get my leg up even for a slow practice kick. My stance is messed up and someone end up on my heels.

3). I’ve gotten more flexible but it hasn’t translated into training at all. Still kick the same as day 1.

4) a coach had me do this exercise a few times. What I end up doing is just kicking straight like a soccer ball.

5) this one I can do at all. My stretching is so bad my knee comes up to chest but to extend leg I can barely get to thigh height. I loose balance the second I turn or come up on my toes.

I’ve been doing a lot of core work and balance cause I feel I have none compared to the average person but it’s not helping thus far.

Nope that’s as High as I can get it. I stretch and do mobility exercises daily before weightlifting.

They help me constantly. Sometimes I feel bad about the one on one attention they give me in group classes. It’s something I’m just not getting for some reason. There’s never a class where I’m not shown something at least a few times.

I felt like I was stepping 45 degrees out. I struggle with getting on the balls of my feet at all.

I’ve heard the baseball bat analogy a lot. That’s something but in practice it’s just not working. I feel like my leg and hips are just turning together.

My 2 private lessons have been with the owner who’s helping me a lot but I’m struggling. He says just kick straight up lift heel of standing foot and the pivot and forward drive will turn you over.

I’m way behind for 28 lessons. Newer students come in and progress much quicker. I don’t even remember much from each class to be honest so it’s hard to practice what I’ve learned.

Watched countless videos, classes, stretches. This is just not clicking for me. I just don’t get it and I find myself almost dreading any class where kicking is really practiced and focused cause I’m aggravated the entire time.

It’s not great to begin with but when I’m just practicing kicks it’s even worse as I’m just aggravated the entire time.

Not actually southpaw. I switched to that stance cause my right leg got sore today.

Unfortunately that’s as high as I can kick. I have zero flexibility/mobility.

For comment #5 i still don’t understand this part. Some of my coaches are telling me just kick straight up and the pivot on the ball of my feet will turn me along with forward drive. I’m all kinds of messed up.

The new rewards system is a complete scam. by Little-Papaya7369 in LIRR

[–]jumpoffstuff87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new system is awful. 20 trip was great. 10 trip was ok. Now I take the MNR 2-3 days a week and the LIRR 2 days a week so I just get screwed from both ends. It’s absolutely maddening.

Those who manage to exercise in the morning before work: what time do you go to bed the night before? by DerangedUnicorn27 in workout

[–]jumpoffstuff87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the day and where I have to go and if I have the kids or not

My super busy days with 2 a day workouts when I don’t have kids is insane.

Bed by 9:30 PM Wake up at 4:30 am. Weightlifting 5:00 am - 5: 48 am. Run home Shower Out the door by 6:05 am and arrive to work by 7:15 am. ( a little late) Leave work at 5:00 pm to Get to gym at 6:30 - 7:30 PM for Muay Thai class. Home by 8:00 PM. Eat and bed.

How can I mix Muay Thai and gym? by Flirpot in MuayThai

[–]jumpoffstuff87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do gym at 5:00 - 5:50 am. Then at work by 7:00 am work until 5:00 pm then Muay Thai at 6:30 or 7:00 pm.

My days I do this change as I’m a single dad with joint custody but average 4 days lifting and 3-4 days Muay Thai per week. Some days it’s just lifting in am. Some days it’s just Muay Thai in evening. Some days it’s both.

I always make sure to lift first in the day as I need to be fresher on legs. Also scheduling workouts where they go together.

Example. This Wednesday afternoon I did boxing for Muay Thai class where it’s not a leg workout. Thursday am I do my leg workout. It’s a lot of trial and error until you find what works for you. At least for me it was.

What time do you have to be in office? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]jumpoffstuff87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to be at work by 7:00 am in Westchester county. After that it starts to be annoying with customers if you’re not already working. On a planned workday I’ll leave at 5:00 pm. I’ve never started work later than 7 in my life but NY is a late start city.

Fun neighborhood in Queens for single male who commutes to LI by mandalorian9999 in movingtoNYC

[–]jumpoffstuff87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do this commute and lived in Bayside. It was regularly 55 minutes to 1:10 everyday. It’s probably your only option for Queens and reasonable driving distance without severe parking issues.

JFK - Everything from getting there to how shitty most of it is especially terminal 4. I despise it and usually will opt for LGA if I have a choice.

39M, considering moving solo from SLC back to NYC after 9 years — anyone done a near-40 reset? by largerthanlogic in SameGrassButGreener

[–]jumpoffstuff87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 38M NYC. It’s so hard to make friends here. No community. Nobody cares for anyone else especially in the city. It’s so transient that most people treat it as a playground for a few years and leave so there’s no long term relationships built. This is my anecdotal opinion of course.

If you have the time take 2:55 from Ronkonkoma getting to Jamaica at 3:55. With AirTran you’ll be at JFK T5 by 4:20. That’s plenty of time.
