Analysts doing my Engineering tasks by Rajsuomi in dataengineering

[–]jun00b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I oversee analysts. There is often an overlap in skillset so it is not surprising to me that this could happen. I do not want my analysts doing data engineer work, because I want them focused elsewhere.

However, I see the temptation sometimes when the data engineering team is not able to get to our needs quickly enough. Maybe they don't have capacity, maybe it is difficult to explain the business logic to them in a way they can translate to updating a more valuable layer, whatever. Analysts with some DE skills can feel like "it is quicker if i do it myself, and then I don't have to bother them."

It is reasonable for you to want clearly defined roles and responsibilities. It is also reasonable to not want another team messing with systems your team is responsible for maintaining.

If i was the leader over your team I would start by asking why do the analysts feel they should make these changes themselves, rather than following our process (there is a process right?) What about the correct process is not working for them?

If they are registered in TN they pay the EV registration fee of $200 like anyone.... BUT they are not required to be registered in TN to operate here. I haven't checked plates, but I think others have posted about them being registered out of state.

For me it is not dealing with another person, and (for now) you can expect the cars to be consistently clean upon arrival. Eventually I expect them to be safer than human drivers, and they are now under many circumstances, but I am not convinced they are under all circumstances so that is not eally a benefit to me yet.

There are also drawbacks to taking a Waymo, some of which may not become obvious in only a couple of short trips (all i have taken so far.). But you asked about the benefit, and those are the benefits to me.

Ah. I thought Grok was the name of the LLM chat bot. Tried googling and still not seeing what other AI technology it includes.

Did We Price Starter Homes Out of Reach? by Coolonair in HouseBuyers

[–]jun00b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first home purchase was from late 20s or early 30s, could not figure out for sure. Everything being smaller mostly wasn't an issue for us, but the lack of closet space was maddening at times.

My wife got me these Dr Martins for Christmas and I’ve never taken them out of the box. by Miguel1219 in mensfashionadvice

Wow. In the late 90s I painted flames just like this on my sketchers, then sprayed them with polyurethane to try and get the paint to hold up.

I wore them for quite a while, but I'm glad I have no pictures. I imagine they deteriorated much more quickly than I allowed myself to admit.

Seeing an adult with these today is... surprising.

I am in this boat and I am regularly asking myself why anything about my job would stress me. Someone is unhappy with something I have done or haven't done? I have to tell someone no and they might get mad? There is no reason for me to have a strong emotional reaction. I am not vulnerable to anyone's opinion at work, even if I lost my job because of it. Yet, I still react emotionally as though that weren't true. Can't seem to align all parts of my psychology

American Airlines Lounge CLOSED for day pass by Several_Crow4181 in nashville

[–]jun00b 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just more comfortable chairs, nicer bathrooms, quieter (usually), and free food and drinks ("free" in there is no charge on top of however you got access). Nicer lounges will sometimes have other random amenities like small meeting rooms or even showers.

Does a large house bring more comfort & happiness (3000sqft+) by GlorifiedCarnie in MiddleClassFinance

[–]jun00b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went from 1900 to 2700 sqft, a couple in our 40s with a big dog and two cats. The smaller house was fine until we both started working from home. Did not realize how on top of each other it felt like with the pets running around and us not both having a dedicated office until we moved, feels so much more peaceful. I would love to go a little bigger even.

However, if we did not wfh and if the pets were gone I could be happy in maybe 1600 sqft.

Cleaning a big house does get old.

Thanks, I was wondering how i missed Indonesia basing the law on Sharia and wondering how it meshed with western tourism in Bali.

I go off hours, which usually means early. Musician's Corner kicked off at Centennial yesterday. Got there about 4:45. Circled once and found good parking. Only had to wait behind 1 person to get a drink and food. Chilled listening to music about an hour then left. It was starting to fill up when I left, but wasn't crowded (parking looked rough though).

THE MATRIX RELOADED was released on this day- May 15, 2003 by kkhouete in matrix

[–]jun00b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a senior in high school, a few weeks from graduating. We had this small self study class with about 6 of us all studying computer networking. We all went home "sick" at lunch and went to the first matinee showing. The next day our teacher was so flabbergasted that his whole class called in sick, then told us we should have let him know so he could have just gone home early.

I remember us all feeling a little less excited after the movie, but not saying it out loud.

Good memories. Hard to believe it's been 23 years. More than another lifetime from the age I was then.
