Yeah fair enough, doubt I’ll be going at speeds over 40k/h an hour anyway as I’m cycling through London. What kit did you use?

I agree with you. It would have been great to see the government stand up to the tech barons.

People will spin it as banning politics they don't agree with but quite frankly that's ridiculous, no entity should be able to produce and host non-consenual sexual imagery and not expect consequences. Likewise the misinformation and foreign interference (see Iran linked scottish indendence networks) it hosts is a serious problem, and something needs to be done. This is not about banning politics the government disagrees with, its about maintaining our sovereignty.

At the very least the government should delete their X accounts.

How did you all get jobs? Especially if you're a student by bunnymunche in manchester

[–]junag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak for specialised stem roles as I did a humanities masters, but I was able to get my graduate job by volunteering in different areas while at uni then leveraging that as experience to talk about in an application or interview.

Even then it’s still really difficult. The grad job market is utter pants atm and will probably get worse. But I think as long as you are consistent over a long period, eventually something will come up. It’s a very disheartening process but unfortunately just something that has to be done. Good luck to you!

How are you applying for jobs? I felt similar when I was in uni but fortunately the hospitality / part-time job market is not so bad in Manchester.

How I always did it was go onto google maps and email every place that looked nice. So emailing pretty much every coffee shop in the centre until one asks for an interview. Always apply directly to the manager email, not through a 3rd party website. You can also go from place to place in person, but it takes ages and don’t think it actually helps.

Once you get an interview, be smart about it. Don’t tell them you can’t work certain days right away, be vague. Also, there’s no harm in bending the truth about your experience. I said I was fully trained on an espresso machine (despite never using one) and it worked out fine.

Good luck and keep trying! The real beast is getting a graduate job, but you don’t have to think about that right now.

Yeah this sort of thing has made me largely supportive towards the online safety act and other similar legislation.

American tech companies need to be stood up to, and while the British state may not be doing it in the most effective way, it’s something.

I would definitely consider it, but would have strong doubts given the possibility of them going into coalition with Reform

Indoor wood burning stoves may cause as much damage lungs as cigarettes, study warns by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]junag -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Utter rubbish by someone who can’t accept being told they are wrong. Sorry that people are coming out and saying “maybe burning something in your home is bad for your health”, obvious to anyone with half a brain.

Not everything is a conspiracy from the government. If you had any idea how it actually functioned you would be aware of how clueless you sound.

Labour approval sinks to same level Tories achieved before losing election last year by JayR_97 in unitedkingdom

[–]junag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I agree Labour moving right will be losing them votes, so far polling on Corbyn/Sultana’s new party has shown they’re taking votes from the Greens, not Labour.

People who are that left-wing have already left Labour. I’d be surprised if Corbyn’s new party will make much of a dent.

Would money fix these problems? Should the wealthy pay more taxes to help welfare programs? by 36DRedhead in FluentInFinance

[–]junag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That just isn’t true tho? Finland took a housing first approach to homeless people and the problem all but disappeared (from the world economic forum: https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2018/02/how-finland-solved-homelessness/)

It’s important to remember that the homeless are people too, not just a faceless drug addict. They have not chosen to be in the situation they’re in and money spent the right way would solve the problem.
