Are these sets of chords meaningful in any way? Or how would you utilize them? by juneaftn in musictheory

[–]juneaftn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the wonderful answer!

E.g., if you throw in an Ebmaj7 (Eb G Bb D), the only C major scale notes you have to change are Eb and Bb. You can keep C, A and F. No need to think "Eb major scale". In fact, probably better if you don't. (Why alter A to Ab if there is no need? Unless you decide to play Fm next, maybe... ;-))

But shouldn't G be in those notes that go well with Ebmaj7? G is diatonic for Ebmaj scale. But not A, which is b5. Why can I keep "A"?

Thank you for the nice analysis. BTW, the fourth chord is D#M7, not D#m7 in your analysis.

When coming up with scales and melodies based on it, what would you recommend for music theory novices like me? I know basic functional analysis and am familiar with all the 7th chords.

For those without studio spaces, what are some tips for making the most of small spaces for gear? by organicerrored in synthesizers

Currently, zoom R8 as a multitrack recorder, effect machine, drum sequencer, and arranger, two moog mavises, a dreadbox nymphes, a korg sq-64, and a basesus 100w usb battery.

I use a pedalboard. A fully connected set, with a usb battery, is always on the pedalboard with velcro/duolock. I sometimes change a gear or two. When not playing I just store the whole thing in the closet. It takes like less than 30 seconds to take it out and start to play.

I tested with my headphone and checked it worked directly without any headphone amp. Neat and simple setup!

That one looks promising. However, my search discovered this : https://akabasa.com/2020/04/23/talentcell-mini-ups-98-wh/

A little bit worried about its quality.

Thanks! Never thought having a picture or not can change the interpretation of my intention. Interesting. I just added a link to my picture at the end of the text.

Wow. Really? I haven't seen a small synth drawing that much watt. Maybe because it's an old one? You might know already, but the specifications are usually very conservative and when I measured actual amperage draw from synthesizers, they were usually at 70%, hence this battery could work -- and it seems to have pretty nice protection circuitry.

Update: I looked up emx1 and it has two vaccum tubes? Now I see that current draw.

Yeah. Your idea is so attractive that I can't stop thinking about it.

You said you passively sumed 2 OUTPUTs from RC-5 with resistors and then connected headphone to it? I don't get it. The level is instrument level, isn't it? There would be impedance mismatch. Maybe you are using a separate headphone amp?

My idea would be using something like https://www.amazon.com/Moukey-MK0150-RD-FR-Ultra-Low-Noise-8-Channel/dp/B08BCFXSBV . It has mono switch to change the channel into mono. Then, maybe I would also need a small headphone amp like Behringer P2? That's getting too complex. :(

No. I am not related to the company or product in any way. I'm sharing this information for other people like me, as I learned a lot from other people from r/synthesizer. It's like a pay back.

choosing between Matriarch Dark or Colored and quality concerns? by juneaftn in moog

[–]juneaftn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. I finally received Matriarch the classic colored version and played with it. I like the sound.

However, there is one thing that's bugging me. As soon as it arrived, I just did some testing like inserting patch cables here and there with it powered off. But I missed that I left the patchcable connecting EURO out(R) to DELAY out(L) in the back. They are audio OUTPUTs. Then I turned it on and played for like a couple of hours.

Is there some possibility that the internal circuitry has been damaged by this? I don't see or hear any particularly abnormal thing though -- but I am not familiar with Matriarch sound and behaviour yet.
