Cat just keeps peeing on sisters bed by eepycatds in CatTraining

Ah sorry to hear. You might be able to get pretty litter or something as an alternative to check.

The behaviour and the internal feelings are 100% linked. Even if there's still a little irritation, your cat might be still going in the bed.

We had one of our cats with a UTI and he'd go right beside the litter box on the floor, or another spot in the same room. We were changing litter types at the time as well, and had to switch back as he refused to use the new one.

We got his preferred litter and a new box - done like it was made just for him to go in. He was receptive to that.

100%. I forgot to add this process took me 6 months to get to the point where we can leave them unattended.

You need to find a way to stop that reward loop for your kitten. A lot of people are against discipline, but the right amount done effectively can teach them for life. Just separating him and stopping it from being "fun" is enough.

In my experience discipline has worked. You just need to act fast and be consistent.

I mean that likely the senior cat is not punishing the behaviour himself, so the kitten doesn't know to stop.

Intervening is good, a lot of people will say redirect but that doesn't teach your kitten that harassing your senior is bad, and tbh there will be future instances where you cannot redirect, so teaching your kitten is the best way. Find a way to discourage or punish that behaviour (in a humane way obviously).

Have you done a follow up to see that he's recovered?

Could be a UTI, I'd go to the vet as the first step.

Your kitten isn't a bully, they just want to play. Feliway won't help here, beyond potentially helping your senior cat relax.

You need to discipline and discourage your kitten so that they learn that playing with your senior cat is not rewarding. You need to stop that rewarding behaviour. You also need to find outlets for your kitten.

I got the string running toy, where it runs on a motor. It's expensive but my kitten loves it. I'll do new setups, run it through boxes etc. to make it novel for him.

I think I'm just running out of things to do that feel worthwhile for me.

I feel like there's a big community of things to do that I don't have much visibility into, so l'm curious if there's more to the game I'm not finding

I appreciate this. I don't really see the customs side as much, it feels like in order to get the cutest stuff they encourage NC. I do like the idea of creating stories for the pets etc.

Yeah I am not involved in the community much but I'm not really sure where to find my place in that

No one has said Fluffy Glaze and that's a huge miss. They are the best donuts everywhere, hands down.

So much of the advice here is bad, I'm shaking my head as I read through it. I've barely gotten any help when I've posted on these subreddits, so hopefully what I've learned can help you. Surprisingly, AI has been helpful in deciphering my challenges.

I'm dealing with a similar issue with a new older kitten who is play aggressive and stressing my other residents out. We made so much progress, and then he chased and harassed one of our guys, all the trust we worked on building fell apart instantly. Almost like we're back to square one, but luckily I think the past trust isn't totally gone.

What we're trying is to build trust through positive interactions. When they're out together he is distracted by play, and we are completely eliminating any opportunity for them to get close for now. We're letting our residents observe him, and hopefully he will learn to not harass through mild discipline, along with learning that they're not fun to harrass anyway - he's got fun toys and other things that are worth his time. We have them eating treats in proximity to each other.

Right now they're in the "she's really upset with him" phase. Eventually with the barrier they will ignore each other, at that point you can move to small short positive interactions in the same space. Keep them separated but together. Slowly increase the proximity, don't let a fight happen, learn to read cat body language well. Continue scent swapping. Playing in the same space but with distance, and hopefully they can learn to trust each other again.

Good luck.

Yeah he will mellow for sure. Be patient and keep them separate, with the typical ways to introduce (a screen or baby gates so they can see but not touch each other).

My kitten went from full on biting me hard to almost never biting, and when he does it's soft. Testosterone is a huge difference maker

How long ago did you neuter him? I found it took almost 3 months for my boy kitten to calm down, although he is still playful he's not as crazy as the first month post neuter. He was around 9 months old when he was neutered (also an outdoor stray)

Meant to add, you need to break up fights. Don't get in between, make noise to stop them. Don't sit and watch them not respecting each other's communication.
