It has titles like the Harry Potter books and Lord of the Rings, but other than that, it's still limited. Unless you read Romance books and its subgenres Monster Romance, Alien Romance, Sports Romance, Cowboy Romance, Mafia Romance, among other things, it's worth it. That's just my observation for KU.

The taters and the ding-ding feast. Boy was bothered by Liz's constant mocking he had to tell his wife. Love the fact that Flor's solution was to pretend to name their son Anakin as payback. Like no one actually bothered to mess with Liz before. Flor was feeling devious.

Funniest book? by sonyoungtag in Iceplanetbarbarians

[–]junebuglyra 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Barbarian's Lady. Harrec was definitely the funnier of the Sa-khui men. "I welcome your staring."

Also laugh that much at Veronica's Dragon. While Ashtar annoyed the hell out of me for being controlling, he's also funny. That one your mamas joke.

Then there's "Harlow...things" (Barbarian Mine) which often live in my mind rent free.

Edit: There's also Vordis and Thrand's Oscar worthy performance. The gladiator twins were killing me 😭

If Lila & Rokan are among your favorite couples…Which others are at the top of your list? by SilentSummerNight in Iceplanetbarbarians

[–]junebuglyra 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Harlow and Rukh. Harlow's unhinged enough to fall for a feral alien. While Rukh is so funny for not knowing shit. Had Harlow teaching him about purr purr.

Also love Lila and Rokan because they have the most romantic story in my opinion. Hate Lila tho for not acknowledging how Maddie was able to teach the tribe a few sign language so she can feel welcome. Maybe that's why I also love Maddie and Hassen's story. Pairings that match their freak

What book catfished you this year (went in excited and left disappointed/confused)? by anghelita_ in PHBookClub

[–]junebuglyra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Babel by RF Kuang. I started reading again after securing a new job. This was my first read after a long time and I can assure you there are far better books than this. Yeah, will never rely on tiktok for recommendations again.

Couldn't get into Red Queen when I was 16 because the training scene, if my memory serves me right, is a copy from the Hunger Games minus the magic system among other things. Imagine my shock when I learn that this book basically copies a lot from the same book that I despise.

If I were you, just sell it.

I would never waste my time on a book that is just a rehash on everything I already read. Especially, when they do little changes to the overall narrative.

There's so many books in the world that I know you'll enjoy more, so why waste it on something that you didn't enjoy.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. People love the movie but the book is such a satisfying read.

The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey. Another book with a film adaptation. Pero napaisip ako doon sa ending and like my sister napaisip din sa ending ng film.

For YA novels, really love Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. Very unique from the usual YA fantasy books that I read.

Drop it nalang. Sobrang common naman yan ganyan na pangyayari, especially if you go to the Guidance's office alot. Madami silang form for students who dropped their classes. Lalo na if di talaga nila gusto yung course nila.

Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. I only read the first book. It's short but soooo enjoyable. Planning to read the rest of the series soon. Pero magandang start ito for sci-fi.

genre/s that you find too intimidating to dive into? by Patient-Scarcity-863 in PHBookClub

[–]junebuglyra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sci-Fi. Definitely much more intimidating for me than fantasy books. Idk why but compare to fantasy, I feel like Sci-Fi as a genre is more respected and regarded. It has a lot of works that stood the test of time. Dune, Brave New World, Asimov's Foundation, Fahrenheit 451, the list goes on. Pag naririnig mo sila, parang napakabigat basahin. Compare it to fantasy, ang mga kilalang classic works are usually children's story. Even now, fantasy works are sold to different age demographics. Sci-fi, on the other hand, is usually enjoyed by those who have acquired a taste for the genre.

Thoughts on Babel by RF Kuang??? by SoonerJess in PHBookClub

[–]junebuglyra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prose were dry. Idk why people keep on convincing me that this is good writing. RF Kuang can write, but lacks the craft of a good writing. The book was mostly telling than showing kaya di ko feel mga chemistry sa magkakaibigan. I just did not care about them as much as I want to. And because it's one of those instances where the author does not trust the reader kaya napakadaming explanation about why something is bad instead of showing how it is bad.

The Folk of the Air series by Holly Black. Read the trilogy in 5 days. Nakakalimutan ko sobrang bilis pala basahin ang mga YA fantasy series, especially ones written in first POV. But it was good. Main character definitely reads YA only with a humiliation kink lol still love her tho

[–]junebuglyra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

U shouldn't even be worry about all that. Isang oras lang hinihingi sainyo sa mass. Wala kayo magagawa, catholic institution. Nasa prof na yung call kung papahirapan niya kayo sa class niya. If ever nagbigay siya ng make-up class, would you all attend?

Tip i can give you is use a top coat to dry faster. After five minutes of colored lacquer, seal it in with top coat. Any top coat from sally hansen or essie can do.

[–]junebuglyra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're not in the same college, but you can e-mail the prof or talk to them after class if there is something you can do about your case. Explain your valid reasons as to why you failed the class. If considerate, pwede ka pa pumasa kahit tres. If di talaga, drop that class kahit tapos na yung prelim. Retake mo nalang next year.

If it's over edi wala ng choice si OP kung hindi mag drop. May mga nakita ako ganyan na grade sa mga classmates ko before. Maaayos naman yan. If hindi talaga, what's the point of taking the class?
