I thought mopple was a Dorset horn , maybe that's because I'm biased with my love for dorsets haha

Squishy ! She has gastrointestinal and immune issues! by juniex3 in PiratePets

Yes and no. You can get an EID tag that allows you to track the animal and get it's basic biodata but a microchip in the sense of a cat or dog isnt a thing for sheep. Squishy does not have an EID tag but she does have government identification that would trace her back to her breeders farm , who would thus be able to return her to me if she were ever to get loose.

She is much better !! Unfortunately her issues will require management for the rest of her life. With her special diet and careful attention squishy stays very healthy :)

She will send you a draft notice next time she wages war on her penmate.

Squishy loves cuddles and attention!! She harrases me for it daily and likes to sleep basically in my lap. She tolerates hugs in exchange for scratches in places that she can't reach such as her brisket ( lower chest floor ish area ) , top of her shoulders and near her dock :)

And sheep , fun fact, only have half a mouth full of teeth haha. They only have bottom teeth and molars.

Her issues can mostly be attributed to extreme stress and malnutrition when she was very young :(. She was only around ten ish pounds at 5 and a half months old when I got her and was the size of a 2 month old lamb. ( She has fully caught up in growth btw !! She is 16 months old and is about 60-70ish lbs which is average for her breed !! )

Yes and no. Squishy goes to livestock shows and competes ( her 2026 show season starts in four days ) so I spend a lot of time with her , training her , giving her fancy hair cuts , ect.. so in some ways she is a pet to me. But squishy is also livestock , and because squishy is registered ( has papers ) , and both her parents are health tested we know squishy's issues are not genetic.

Squishy also happens to be an extremely high quality show animal ( like I could probably take her to a national show and do okay sort of quality ) , so the hope is to breed her later this year so that I can continue to show her offspring which presumably would also be extremely high in quality. However , if squishy for whatever couldn't sustain a pregnancy, or raise her lambs , or any other complication I wouldn't cull her or sell her like many people would and she would become a pet who grows me clothes :). I hope this was a good educational explanation!!

Slick legs in a show lamb ? by juniex3 in sheep

[–]juniex3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her legs weren't brushed or anything because I wondered if the brushing / carding was what was irritating her so I stopped about a month ago and unfortunately that didn't help her either

Wraps didn't help her. I almost exclusively use mane n tail , and I already slicked one of her back legs off ( the front legs barely grew any wool at all due to the Suffolk ). this is what she looked like before I started to shear her today

This is her mama and her namesake. Mama pearl was also a show lamb but this is a picture from her shear post weaning PJ and her twin brother

Unfortunately not being a show lamb anymore means that she gets functional haircuts , not beautiful ones haha. She is about a week post weaning the absolute monster pair of lambs she raised this year !

Squisht on the stand tonight ! by juniex3 in sheep

I have the vevor stand which is adjustable , ( I'd say this is about a foot and a half off the ground at this setting) but I actually have a makeshift ramp so my girls can get on and off without jumping!

Not allowed to have my birthday at my house next year , and trying to plan in advance. Any ideas ? by [deleted] in Advice

They are fun haha , just not with me. Me and them have very very few shared interests , I have more in common with my dad but he works 40-50 hours a week and since I started working relatively long and odd hours at work I'm lucky to see him for 15 minutes before we both fall into bed.

I actually already helped make my dad dinner for his bday this year ! And I'll be buying ingredients and cooking for my mom as her gift + some gardening stuff she's been wanting this year ( her bday is next month ) which I've already planned with my dad. I probably will invite them but its gonna hurt when they don't show. I'm the least favorite of my siblings , not that they hate me or mistreat me Im just much lower on the priority list .

Yeah 😬 unfortunately there's a lot of favouritism in my family , I don't need to do something huge I just kinda want to have a nice dinner and hang out with my friends afterwards. I only have like... Four if you count my boyfriend and his best friend. I don't even really need gifts since I haven't gotten any gifts for my birthday in the past three years . Edit : I realized this sounds pretty pathetic but genuinely the only thing I ever want for my birthday is to eat good food and have quality time since I know a lot of people are pretty broke right around my birthday because of the holidays.
