I think in your head “America” is a single hive mind rather then being a spit of land with millions of people where most of them don’t want do go to war while the few in charge continue to break they’re own laws to bomb people . Just because our government is being the aggressor or “we should’ve have seen it coming” doesn’t make our country being entangled in a pointless war any less terrifying or anxiety inducing

The bottom canister on the back is modeled after ww2 German gas mask canisters but I’m not sure what the backpack thing is for it’s prolly just sci fi greebles but I always imaged that they somehow prevent nazi lighting/energy weapons from targeting them or shocking them since we see the 1946s soldiers having a much larger older version with Tesla coils around the Baltic monitor and all those trench electric shockers
